sprouting trouble

Please see attachment.
What would cause a sprout to fold over like this?
5 days old since planting germinated seed.
Moist soil but did not water it for 3 days. Tried watering since but not helped.
3" Under a 45w cfl.
Ideas please?
Cheers

...it looks like your soil mix doesn't have adequate drainage so it stays too wet for too long, ...plus the pot is too big for a seedling.

here's a shot of some of my starts and you'll note they are in 9oz cups of straight coco, ...i like coco, lol. ...the second shot shows bins up top with the beans in their cups and with temporary 'humidity' domes that are removed as soon as the seedlings have fully emerged from the soil, ...or in my case, from the coco.

anyway, i'd say that that seedling isn't gonna make it so i'd start a few more, only add perlite to your soil, about 30% total volume, so it will dry out faster, ...mj doesn't like wet feet and seedlings are very fragile for the first couple of weeks so wet feet kills them quick.

Yea i agree the soil is wayy to wet. Also the seed my been plant upside down causing the growth to get stunned
...yeah man, don't take this the wrong way but i doubt that that is a contributing factor here, ...you can plainly see the seedling oriented in the proper direction and just folded over.

btw, just coming up upside down isn't necessarily gonna stunt growth, ...here's a few pics of one i had back in the day, when i was young i'm not a kid anymore, that came into the world upside down and while i abandoned the rockwool years ago, i still have that White Rhino and she yeilds like a champ.

My question is simple, why would you want to plant a seed upside down? Roots grow thru the bottom not the top, so why not just do it the right way? Honestly, other than shits and giggles why?

thanks for the replies people.
after investigation turns out there were sciara fly larvae in the soil that had chomped on the root. see little worm in centre of pic on lump of soil.
time to go and purchase a good quality grow medium.
lesson learnt! any more comments on best grow medium/ soil to use?
cheers

yeah man, coco hempy-buckets, KISS style ftw.

...when you are relatively new at this hobby it can be rough to figure out which direction to go in and it took me some years to find and begin to use hempy-buckets as my method, hempy's are a passive form of hydroponics that requires no pumps and such so no power to run them, like i said, they are totally passive.

...here is a thread that will give you the basics on hempys and while this thread discusses the use of a perlite/vermiculite mix as the grow medium and not coco, there is still much information that is applicable.
The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

...there is also a long and active thread on hempy growing here authored by fellow member Moebius that i'm sure contains much information you would benefit from.
World Of Hempy

...now this thread discusses the use of MaxiBloom as your sole nutrient product and it is still active today with many gifted growers using the product and braggin' on their results and all are available to answer questions.
*The K.I.S.S. Method*

...this thread here is to a very reliable and easy to master cloning technique.
World class cloner new at walmart

...this thread discusses the benefits of vertically orienting your bulbs to maximize yields exponentially almost.
Benefits of Vertical Growing

...anyway, if you take the time to study these threads before you throw down any more of your money they will change your life, ...they sure changed mine!
