sprouting seeds

Paper towel / zip lock method.

Can I plant the seeds once there is a visible crack or should I wait for a tap root to pop out more?

Getting ready to plant my first real genetics (mental floss) and checked them a bit ago and some are cracked and I am impatient. I can wait no problem but I really want to finish this bud :)

Haha sweet congrats good luck on the grow...

I, personally, much prefer the dropping the seed in acup of water method over the paper towel method. It opens up in 24 hours and is ready for planting. I usually plant as soon as i see the root as oppose to letting it get too big, since I use the water method instead of paper towel, I heard leaving it in the water too long after it opens up can cause early root damage.

haha yeah know what you mean, i'd wait till the tap root comes out a bit, you know whats happening then.

I prefer the paper towel method and would wait for some tap root to start showing. Can't really go wrong I just found I had a better success rate when I let the root stick out vs cracking and tossing them in soil. Both do work though and I may have done something wrong when doing it with the water in a glass method.

has anyone ever planted with the tap root at an odd angle, will they make it to the surface eventually? always thought that the plants would have some sort of sense of gravity or something.....

I once did the paper towel method in a cup and I did not see any difference rather than putting it in a paper towel in a zip-lock bag.

nah i'm always careful to make sure they are pointing down, just wondering because in nature not all of them can be put in carefully, but i guess thats why not all seeds live...

I have just got through germinated 11 seeds this past week and everysingle one of them had crack shells with tap roots out in less than 24 hours. I just put some distilled water in a cup and put a half of a drop from a dropper of SuperThrive B and cover the cup and put in a dark space and like 22 hrs later every seed was cracked and every one germinated and all are seedlings now. I planted the seedling a 1/4" below the soil and 9 out of a 11 pop up out of the soil on the third day and the other two on the 4th day. I am going to keep doing this now that I have had such success with it.
