I have afew different strains sprouted right now that i was planning on growing all through the season completely outdoor with no supplemental lighting. Should i be worried of them flowering around may? i had though that since they were sprouted before 12/12 that the would stay in veg until the light cycle cycle peaks and begins to decrease again towards the end of summer as usual but am finding people who disagree with me on this idea. Any info is appreciated i am in central CA in zone 9b.

Its farming not guaranteeing....advice an old grower told me. Im in Southern Oregon and have had plants flower in June from cold weather. Had to dig em up and plant new ones.
I sprout my seeds now too. Have them under 16/8 lights to get them big enough for a hoop house in April to harden off and get taller. By April dont need the lights now as they should sex in mid to late April so you're only planting females. They usually show sex and keep on veging through the summer. Cold weather in late May or early June can trigger flowering. Same with wildfire smoke in July if its enough to block sunlight.

Hey mcbigmac
Seeds can be started on 12/12 they will get to a couple of nodes and flower right away. So your plants will do what ever the light is telling them.
If they do start to flower then they will will reveg as the light increases and you can expect the bushiest plants you have ever seen.

Caveat to that. You can. But its not the easiest nor less complicated. Sexing too early, that is not enough nodes will stunt and really hard to revert to veg. Bushy yes but not always good veg growth. Sometimes takes hi N+ to break out of the indeterminate growth. And sometimes topping the weird top growth you can get thats the spindly single blade leaf tops.
Experiment, observe and you've got a lot of knowledge given to you and can always ask if something comes up.

Welcome to RIU.

Plants reach sexual maturity at 4-6 weeks. You will need to look at your length of day for then and figure what you need to do. If the dark period is too long, they will flower at sexual maturity. One way to get them to a safe veg time is to run a few lights for a couple of hours at midnight. This is not stealth, but it will fool the plants into thinking it's summertime.

This is a good tool to figure your light and dark periods. Just input a town near you.
