Spider Mites - Easy Fix / Post yours

As all growers know , there are many things that will screw up a grow ( especially indoors ) . Things like Nanners , over watering , light leaks , bud rot and spider mites. These little bastards can happen ANYTIME throughout your grow. But in the flowering stage it can be a nightmare.

There are commercial remedies such as Neem Oil and other pesticides , but I don't want to ADD chemicals to my smoke. I believe in finding as near organic solutions as possible.

Here is my problem ... I have 2 Grand Master Kush plants finishing their 9th week !
They are on their final flush and pulled plants to examine triches , and noticed some spotting at the water leaves. Grabbed my loupe , flipped the leaf and there was some of those bastards. They were not all over plant ( thank god ) but had to go, like RIGHT NOW.

Spider mites can invade your indoor environment in multiple ways , thru your air intakes or on your clothes ( from being outside ) , on your shoes or other ways. Spider mites SUCK juices from the leaves and cripple growth , sometimes stunting growth depending on severity. These are serious pests and should not be discounted by the grower. All of your work can be lost. My situation was in certain areas but had to treat whole plant. Spraying liquids on fat buds did not make sense to me , so I looked for a more direct approach.

My solution : I found a very potent way to deal with these shitty bugs.
I use a Capsacin based approach and application method. I begin with I cup of Water , 3 cloves of Garlic and 1 Tbls of Red Ground Pepper. Boil this solution til Aroma explodes. ( this will assault your nose ).

Recipe :
3 cloves garlic ( peeled )
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon red ground pepper ( with seeds )

Boil til aroma explodes , then bring to room temp . Apply directly to leaves ( and underside )

Cool solution to room temp . Application can be done with a small spray bottle ( targeting under leaf areas ) or by using an old toothbrush ( this helps to dislodge bugs and target specific areas ) or dip your fingers into solution and gently " pull " leaf thru your fingers. This is a very strong aromatic solution.

This works for smaller grows that can be individually treated , but for large grows or SCROG setups there may be some obstacles to overcome to thoroughly treat all of it.

Don't let these troublesome little bastards ruin your crops !

Love to here about other " home brews ". :leaf:

I just nomally spray neem oil before i going to flower and just keep a close eye out for the little bastards. any signs of spotting i cup the lea with hand to bloke buds from being sprayed and spray leaf. Roasemarry oil works to:) I have had a whole plant messed up after not realising till i was about to harvest sprayed plant to find webs all over her bummer:(

Yeah it sucks ass ! ... You go all the way to final weeks to see it jeopardized by these little pests. I will try Rosemary next time ( if they show up again on future grows ) . Luckily this time , it was minimal . No webs just a few on certain sites.. They dropped off leaf quickly once I " washed " this hot sauce over them. Just dragging solution underside leaf they dropped dead on to a white piece of paper. Now I'm in the last couple days of harvest before chop. So they weren't too bad. Thanks for that rosemary idea.

I use a similar solution made with habenero peppers. I take 4 peppers and run them through a food processor with a little water. Take that and add it to 4 cups of water and cook on low heat for 20 min. Strain and spray. Use caution when doing this as the spray is very strong. Use some sort of goggles or glasses and cover your nose and mouth with a cloth of some sort. It work like a champ and keeps other pests from messing around in your garden. Good luck.

mightywash or the 'new' replacement called ultimate wash. SAME stuff by NPK industries but the 'new' ultimate wash has no dyes in it so it is clear vs the pink color from mightywash.

I also use hot-shot no pest strips. I know when I need to replace them because I will typically find a few mites. But after I replace them...things get better in a hurry.

Sorry I realize this isn't a 'home brew'
