Spicy, like peppers. Smoke is kinda harsh.

i'm completely stumped guys. i don't know where else to go or ask or what. I've grown Big Bud / Skunk #1 like 4 times previous. It has never tasted like that, it smells good, but after smoking it you can almost sense the spicy like quality in the back of your throat in a deep whiff. I have ounces of this stuff. i just went to the dispensary and bought some other stuff i didnt grow because i dont know if its all in my head. or if im seriously going crazy. it has NEVER tasted or even seemed like it would burn your throat or be spicy kinda hot smoke. the only thing that has ever been sprayed on it was the frist week it went to 12/12 it got 2 sprays 4 days apart of properly dosed Monterey garden insect soap aka spinosad. which has the OMRI sticker on it and says its safe to use up til harvest. which i would never do. the only thing i can think of is maybe there was a fan in the same room as the plants the first 2 days they were drying? have any of you guys ever come across anything like this? i'll upload some pictures of the bud if you really need but it looks quality.

I have had "spicy" weed before. Wasn't plesant for sure. You didn't spray with any pepper spray sorta remedy so we can eliminate that. What is odd is that you grew it before with better results. Did you use different nutrients or amounts?

Everything stayed the same as far as i know. It's had me completely paranoid and questioning everything every time i come into contact with it and am reminded. In a about 10 days my favorite, hands down favorite is coming down and i'm truly terrified it may be the same... i just don't know if im poisoning myself or what. could i have scarred my lung or esophagus to the point of it being so raw and sensitive that its like that? Are you supposed to "wash" spinosad off after you apply it in the weeks after? because that i didnt do i figured it would grow out. or does a fan in the first few days of drying make it taste like that sometimes?

oh , i forgot. my mom says it smells like fresh celery, but cant seem to notice any of the things i do. i smoke a lot. a lot more than her. maybe thats why i notice it.

Well to my knowledge there are no reports of spinosad causing a flavor. You know I get different results sometimes from summer runs, indoors or not. Honestly I have no clue. Could be the soil mix you are buying changed.

Might just be your mind causing it. Just the idea that something is in the product can make it taste different to you.

The only time I've had this happen is when I over dried it before putting it in the jars to cure.

Yep. Bad cure, most likely dried too fast and harsh because chlorophyll didn't get a chance to break down.

You can try temporarily adding back moisture in the form of damp paper towels or orange peel in sealed containers but it's an uphill battle and you want to be careful of mold issues.

thank you so much for the quick and awesome responses guys. i think i have to agree. i had a fan going, which ive never done before because i was worried and paranoid about possible bud rot. . or mold in general and looks like thats what it was drying it too fast those first 2 days...my general anxiety and paranoia about everything in general definitely lprobably didnt help. its just so frustrating i ruined a whole plant over a stupid fan and 48hrs. after the probably 2352 hours initially. the last 2% its no wonder most people give up after the first few years.

When they say safe to use up until harvest they are talking about crops that you will be washing. Not cannabis that you'll be smoking. But since you sprayed before it started flowering I doubt the Monterey has anything to do with it. Just want to clarify that "Safe to use until harvest". They're not talking about cannabis. It's got oils and surfactants in it. Nothing you want to be spraying on buds the day before harvest.
