i have a 4" axial fan (120 volts AC) which has a "brushless" motor and i really need help finding a speed adjuster/controller for it. the prob im having is fing one for fans which have a brushless motor; all the ones ive found so far state "not for use with brushless fans" so PLEASE HELP!
NO a light dimmer will not work because it is a completely diff device which performs a completely diff task.

What hardware stores are you going to? I'm using a 'continuously variable' controller made for a ceiling fan with a 4" fan right now. It works fine.

Alternatively, you can contact a motor drives company or look for one on the internet which sells square wave (or similar) motor controllers. Or build one yourself using a 555 chip and some transistors.

Many possibilities.

hey man could you elaborate on that? are u talking bout something that WILL work with a 120VAC "BRUSHLESS" fan motor. im no stranger to wiring so i dont mind tinkering but i need to know for sure it will work so i dont have to make two trips to the store because its a long ass drive. thanks

All you need to do is put it on a dimmer switch, it doesn't matter what kind of fan it is. It might not work on the lowest setting so you'll have to figure out what the lowest setting is that will still give it enough power to spin the blades. I don't like the 3 setting switches so I would get one with a slider. I can move mine a little more than half-way down before it stops running. I would marked that spot for reference.

What makes you think a dimmer wouldn't work?
