Some advice on taking better pictures, with not so nice cameras

Okay my camera is an olympus d-395.
One of those point and shoot kinda jobs. Specs on it aint bad, Specially considering that I got it through a trade, but it isnt really good for those pretty budshots to show off my work in the right way to people...

Not everyone has money to drop on a nice camera when we they start out so upgrading comes along and most of us have had to use a mediocre camera or still do.
Here are some ways you can milk the close up pictures that you get from them anyways.

1)a magnifying glass. If you have a semi large or medium sized lens that you can hold steady or mount in front of your camera lens then it will magnify the picture that your going to get. Moving the mag. glass closer to the camera or farther away from the camera in between your subject should help the image focus.

2)go to walmart target or somewhere of the like and pick up a pair of cheap binoculars with CLEAR lenses, none of that anti fog, red lens stuff....
Should be from $5-15 (the ones I got were tasco)
Anyways, carefully take the large lenses out of the end. If you will notice they are bent outwards. The more they are bent, the more magnification that they will have.

Cut a toliet paper tube down the side and wrap it around the lenses carefully and tight, to hold them in one straight tube letting no light inbetween both lenses. Make sure both of the bends on the lenses are facing the right way and are focused when you look @ something through them before taping the tube up tight.

Now you should be able to take pictures through it and get a much better image provided as the light in the area is strong enough that you dont need to use a flash

the first attached picture is as good of a pic that I can get with my camera as it is all the way zoomed in. The second picture will be my home made lens that I use, and all the ones after that are pics that I took with the same camera and lens.
The last pic is why flash often comes out bad. It seems to distort a lot of pictures as it did to the corner of this one, though lighting up the pipe was pretty neat.
