do we have any pros in here that make solventless rosin pressed hash? Sorry if I butchered that.
So is it just called presses rosin? Or just rosin?I hope your pressed rosin is solventless.
No solvents ever needed for rosin pressing. Minus etoh or iso to clean the plates as needed.
You can get a 3 X 5 Low Temp Plates setup for around ~$500 and then you will need a press....another ~$200-$400....You will need some mesh rosin bags....parchment paper...So is it just called presses rosin? Or just rosin?
I was wanting to press about 1/4lb of fresh frozen, but I’m not sure if I should go like 1+lbs per batch.
I understand it’s all about practice, but if I’m trying to spend a decent amount of a press and bubbles bags, etc, how much money do you think it would run? And if you or anybody else makes this, do you have pictures? I saw this one stuff and it made me drool lol
To make this quality or better. How much do you think equipment costs?
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is iso? I see it being said, but unsure what it means.I have made with ISO, BHO and press, my ISO always came out darker and never as tasty as the other 2 methods IMO. I like experimenting with the different methods. The press is nice in its simplicity, I can just have a passing thought (I would like some rosin) and I can make a fresh batch with the press in a short time. The other methods all take planning and preparation.
Yeah man that’s what I want. Just to dab for myself. Just like an oz every couple months lol"Iso" is short for isopropyl alcohol -a commonly available solvent.
Yeah I don't care for iso either. I guess some people prefer it. It's easy to make. Doesn't involve much work....but it doesn't have a full-bodied taste, in my opinion. I find the same thing to be true of almost any solvent extract. Rosin, on the other hand, has all the full-bodied flavor of the strain it came from. For me, rosin was the bridge that made dabbing as enjoyable as smoking flower had been back in the days when there were still a lot of landrace strains around that had great flavor. Maybe it's all the "dirty" wax and volatile esters...lol. No comparison at all, for me. I'd only make iso if it was the last option I had. I don't even touch solvent extracts anymore.
Diy press is about $800 if it's frozen you have to make bubble first and buy ice if you don't have a huge ice maker and you need to buy filter screens for the rosin. Should cost you about $1000 to do your first run don't expect more than 10% yieldSo is it just called presses rosin? Or just rosin?

Do you recommend any bubble bags or press machine? I’ll prob get a 20ton press. I would invest 1-2k into getting started for myselfDiy press is about $800 if it's frozen you have to make bubble first and buy ice if you don't have a huge ice maker and you need to buy filter screens for the rosin. Yeah fuck that lol If I’m gonna do something, I’m gonna do it right. To be honest, I think most amateurs SHOULD press rosin instead of doing any kind of solvent extraction. It's hard to kill yourself with a hair straightener. If a solvent is in any way flammable, and they all are, you can be sure that at least one numbnutz out there somewhere will burn themselves and probably their entire home up. Leave alcohol extraction to the professionals, or at least the knowledgeable. Just hair straightener, press that shit, take 15 minutes to scrape it off the paper, and consume.
You got it spot on bud, but I got my press cheaper like 310.00. 6 ton 3x5 I got my plate kit off Ebay for 249.99, grabbed the a-frame 6 ton shop press from harbor freight. I use the mega coupon for 25% off which isnt around normally but 20% is around always. Press was 80.00 so was like 60.00. Had it for 2 yrs I did replace jack with a husky for 30.00 , but wanted a better jack. Has been great i press some nice stuff. Quality of weed is very important, but some bud just doesn't press well. It can be fine weed and super potent but doesn't mean it presses well. Just the way it is. I've had stuff that looked ok smelled ok but wow did it press well. Its strain dependent but if its sticky it normally will press good. Time and temperature have their part as well. I like slow and low but again stain dependent. You can get a 3 X 5 Low Temp Plates setup for around ~$500 and then you will need a press....another ~$200-$400....You will need some mesh rosin bags....parchment paper...
But MOST of all, if you expect any kind of quality (like your pics), then the weed itself will have to be top quality. You will never get good rosin from shitty weed....never. So, if you want to get the best weed, then you'll have to learn how to grow it, yourself or have a real good friend who knows what they're doing.
"Fire" (or whatever term you use) is set aside for those who dedicate themselves to the alchemy of marijuana. It's not really something you arrive at casually.
There's like a million YouTube videos to check out rosin pressing techniques. My advice is to study some videos and see what's up, first.

Yeah press fresh frozen is tough, but can be done. With that said, most is a soupy mess and a waist. You get some in between the juice, and it's on point with live resin in flavor. I did some gsc that was insane but very, very low yield. I just press some cbd crack like 1-2 days into drying and wow its solid in flavor I made live resin and the rosin was a stronger flavor. No butane in rosin helps but I think the Terps the you lose when you dry fully where still there, so they show up. Going to try that again next harvest and see if works again. But you have to be willing to lose more than you get and be patient with it and you can get some quality stuff. You wouldn't press fresh material, because a bunch of plant juice would get pressed out. You only press dried material, not over dried just normal air dried. I wouldn't bother though, because it's a crazy way to accomplish something which is otherwise easier, with isopropanol in freezing temperatures. Again, you would dry the material normally first, because otherwise the volume of material is huge and it just doesn't work well so why the hell do it when it ain't that hard to dry it? And why buy an expensive and dangerous press when all you really need to buy to extract about 300 grams of normally dried material is a 2 liter bottle of soda pop, just for the bottle to cut the bottom off of and stuff 300 grams of weed in and freeze overnight and use as the extraction column, and three 500 ml bottles of isopropanol. Total cost about $20. The product will also be superior because no wax will be in it like in rosin. Rosin is a rather dirty product, usually no more than 60% THC.
Why does it matter if no solvent was used? Will tiny amounts of alcohol hurt you? No. In fact, you would absorb more through your skin just using it as rubbing alcohol than would ever be found in an ounce of extract. In fact, the natural terpenes in the resin are far more toxic than ethyl or iso alcohol and there's a lot more of it. Any residual alcohol can easily be washed out with deionized water anyway, unlike butane. Rosin is good for people who want to make a few hits of crude resin quickly with a hair iron, end of list of things rosin is good for. I do call the iso extract "rosin" though, because it's pretty similar and why not, right? Good a name as any and it's actually better quality so ain't like there's a downside for anybody.

Some stuff presses super runny even if its "fire" just life. But it is way cheap to press your own and press has more than paid for itself. Dont go out and spend 1500.00 on some over priced press very cheap to put together. 8 bolts together on press was totally assembling I did. Was goi g to get 12 or 20 ton but 6 is more than enough pressure and I can pick mine up and move easily, I could take it to another location no problem.
