Great that you sorted it out. Have to warn you tho that some of the air is escaping throught the casing so if your fan is outside of tent and you get some smell it may not be the filter's fault :)
To lower the noise thought the ducting buy insulated ducting,helps alot!

I love mixed flow fans they are great for our purposes. I use the 6" max fans adjustable speed, efficient, quiet and powerful.

Nope, fan is inside the tent!

I heard bad things about the insulated ducting, i.e. the fiberglass in your lungs.. I sleep in the room too. Will that be a problem? Or do you know of other types of insulation with no health hazard :)

Hm... My insulated ducting is made like this. It has alot of tiny holes in the regular ducting(the silver one)then its covered with plastic(somewhat similar the plastic you use to wrap gifts in) and then theres the layer of fiberglass and another layer of ducting.So the air flow doesn't really go through the insulation.

Anyway you can always buy the insulation and cover the ducting you have,that should also help.
