I am interested in Solar Panal's & taking my Grow off the grid. My question is :- Does anyone know how many Solar Panels I would need to provide electricity for the full duration of a grow averaging at approx 1000W ??

Also if anyone is powering their grow with this method please elaborate etc, many thanks - STELTHY :leaf:

To run a 1000 watt setup your looking at 5 240w panels at an average price of $450.00/ea plus you need an inverter which you can get a 1200 watt inverter for around $700-$800 bucks. Then you have to get your batteries.

You are looking at an easy $3000.00 bucks to do it. That is why L.E.D. is starting to be attractive, you can get one panel and an inverter and run Some ProSource UFO or their Big unit much chearper.

im running led's still dont care power costs $ and when your doing large scale even with led's it costs more $ i'd rather pay out once like 24k to run a FULL on FULL scale commercial garden and NEVER have to pay a cent for power regardless of LED or HPS.

What different wattage Solar Panals are available ? are they all 240W or are bigger wattage versions about ? Its not so much the cost of running my setup that I am concerned with.... I want to take it off the grid (So it doesn't exist) :) :) :) Making it "ULTRA-STEALTH"

I knew there would be a large cost to begin with.. Is it legal to install them yourself to avoid paying the likes of Edison, Also I've heard that its possible to sell some of the solar energy back to the Electric Company/s if I didn't want to do that... Is there a way I could store the extra power etc.. for a rainy day so's to speak ??

The only other thing that concerns me is even if I have my cabs odor under control, sound to a minimal etc etc, would having the panals on my roof draw attention to my home when the 5-0 fly over in their Choppers and be seen as potential bait as far as the eye in the sky is concerned??

I'd really like to find out more info on this topic, cheers for the replies so far peeps! :) - STELTHY :leaf:

not sure about the wattage versions.

Totally legal to install them yourself. I would however either be very comfortable with the wiring, as it can get somewhat complicated. or Hire some one who is. you dont want to fry out a 1200 inverter or something stupid.

you can get a grid tie-in system and sell the extra back to the electric co. My understanding is if you are producing extra power, they HAVE to buy it from you.
I know just once I want a check from those muthafukrs.

The solar panels on your roof will look a lot less suspicious than the 12 monster ganja plants in the back yard..

In the uk solar panels are fitted f.o.c thats supply and fit , there is a small window of power that they take back in return , the rest goes toward your bill , and yeah , they look very cool , PaulO'briensolarpanels.com.

Don't go cheap on the actual panels because cheaper panels lose more effiencey Then better quality ones. Cheap panels that are made in china can lose 5% effiencey a year which means in 10 years they are only working at 50%. there are panels made in germany that are at 85% effiencey after 20 years so its worth paying the extra $$$$ for quality panels.
You will save more $$$$$ in the long run. Just do your research before buying.

If tied to the grid not sure how stealth it really is these days. I found this on cracked.com.

"Once upon a time if a power company wanted to get a sense of how a household was using electricity, they'd have to get permission and attach sensors to things like your refrigerator or hot water heater to see how much each one is taxing the system moment to moment. NALM, on the other hand, can simply monitor the current as it runs through your house, from outside your house, and detect the exact signature of any device you own, at any given time. In Japan they've designed a damned "neural network" of computers that can deduce exactly what electronic devices you're using via a Skynet-like pattern recognition. From that, it knows how long you've been in the shower, when you watch TV or use the computer."

Are they legally allowed to do that ? I mean it seems like an invasion of privacy... Do you know which countries are able to do this ? and do they just pick houses at random to check up on or do they need to be suspicious for another reason 1st and then go for it and check out what electrical appliences your using etc and for how long etc ?? - STELTHY :leaf:

Not sure where this is in use. I wouldn't be surprised if the USA does this. They could always track you and just never use the evidence against you. I agree this is an invasion of privacy and needs to be stopped. I put this out here not to scare people but to heighten awareness of how far they will go to spy on us. Just look at onstar or facebook.
