Soil vs Soiless mediums Nutrient uptake Ph range

I normally ph my nutes to 6.3 before feeding when I was using roots organic soil. I switched to a soiless now and I was reading online about what ph zone feeds nitrogen better..P,K,iron etc.. And it said with soiless mediums nutrient uptake ph range was a little lower than regular soil..
Example:
*Calcium is absorbed best in soil at a ph level of 6.5-9.1 (Wouldn’t recommend having a ph of over 7.0 in soil)
*Calcium is absorbed best in Hydro and Soil less Mediums at ph levels of 5.4-5.8
Hope that makes more since..need some pointers fellas

Don't want to break your brain, but Roots organic is a soiless medium also.

Just about all bagged mixes are soiless, no real 'dirt' in there and usually peat based. Treat them like you did the roots, not a hydro medium like hydrotron, rockwool, or straight perlite.

I had the same dilemma. I am running PRO-MIX and was wondering what would be the best PH. Well , looking at the Foxfarm nute schedule, they recommend treating soil/soilless the same. 6.5 or so! I called Premier Tech (makers of PRO-MIX) and they said to treat as hydro ph wise. They also sent me a tech sheet and it states the ph range should be 5.2 to 6.2. The Pro-mix is incubated at 6.2, innoculated, and charged with 1.0 EC of macro/micro nutes. I know coco is 5.8 too.

Foxfarm is right that soil should be around 6.5, at that ph you get full N-P-K uptake along with the best uptake of micronutrients such as boron, copper, zinc, etc. However, iron is most available at 6.0 or lower but in this range molybdenum availability is diminished since it's more available in a basic environment. 6.5 is slightly low for calcium also, so I would suggest balancing to 6.6 for soil and as already stated hydroponic setups require a lower ( 5.5 - 5.8 ) solution ph.

Also important is Bacteria and Fungi - with Annuals and plants like Cannabis, they like a heavier Bacteria growth soil. Woody and Forest products like more Fungi laden soil. Bacteria like slightly Acidic soil and Fungi more Alkaline. Another benefit to shoot for 6.5 PH

No need to ph most tap water for mixes buffered with lime like pro mix.

The water alkalinity not the ph is what is important.

I have well water testing 8.0 ph. The potting mix bufferes it down to range right away. It has only 100-150 ppm of mineral content. Perfect for gardening.

If it had 3-500 ppm very high mineral content it is best to mix with ro water down to 150ppm.

This is all on the pro mix (premier) Website learning center and even jacks classic fertilizer site has the information on how hard water must be before mixing down or adding acid.

Adding ph down regularly will acidity the soil mix. Add high alkalinity water regularly is like pouring more lime in every time.

The water will work best at 150 ppm with most of the mineral content calcium and magnesium.

Also this info is on every fertilization guide for Greenhouse crops.
