I’m new to this growing thing lol just about to harvest my first indoor grow, which is awesome! Super excited for outdoor season around the corner... my ? Is what’s the best soil mix for a beginner? Do I need to mix in anything else if I just get a load of premium garden soil? I will be for sure adding perlite to the soil, maybe vermiculite to help with water. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help in advance!

Well there are a lot of different mixes people use, so get ready! lol

I'm not an organic guy so I have no input really. I would just be making shit up.

Kelp4less makes a super soil amendment. But whatever you choose, get ready soon cause growing season is around the corner; you don't want your plants to die from hot soil

Are you talking about garden soil from a landscaping store or something? In my exp, the compost is never finished and it always smells like cow manure. Just a heads up. If it smells like cow manure, it's not ready. I can't find good compost unless I make it myself.

Planting directly in the ground outdoors?

If so, i'd likely inspect the texture of your soil. You're after a sandy loam, to loam.
Doing a texture assessment of your soil, will give you a good idea about amendments to use.

Test the ph too.

If you have a lot of clay, test a sample for dispersion.

In a new outdoor patch, that's what i'd do.

Growing in pots outdoors? Hell, buy some quality compost like already suggested. Likely some amendments for along the way too, composted manure, kelp etc.
Big fabric pots, or large containers.

Good luck in the season.

You could either run a super soil or a more safe approach. Here's my outdoor mix: (per 30 gallon container)

Happy frog base soil
Canadian peat moss (about 1/5 the amount of soil)
Worm gold plus earthworm castings (3 cups)
Extra perlite
Extra vermiculite
Insect frass (1/2 cup)
Dolomite lime ( 1 cup)
Azomite rock dust (1/2 cup)
Plenty of azos and mykos

Then I'll top dress at the beginning of flower and end of week 3: 1 tablespoon alfalfa meal (2.5-.5-2.5) from dte and 1 tablespoon bat guano from grow more (0-5-0)for the hormones, a slow release fertilizer, and higher phosphorus to signal budding to develop.

I also make compost tea every week or two, of just ewc, soil, humic acid, seaweed, roots organics buddah bloom (1/4 strength) and molasses. I'll add in some extra bat guano 1 time at about week 4 as well.

About once a week I'll water with cal mag as well at 175 ppm phd at 6.5, and I'll add in 1/4 strength terpinator. Other than that, only water.

I've ran this 5 years now with outstanding results. Huge, STINKY, colorful, frosty buds with no defencies. Its cheap, easy, and my plants always love it.

Super soils are awesome too but the npk ratios are kinda wonky usually and you have to let it cook! The longer the better! Also with that much fertilizer in the mix it becomes impossible to flush, which I always do. (By flush I mean I only feed molasses for 2 weeks at the end and then I'll water about 20 gallons of pure water at the VERY end)

Good luck!!
