thanks!! exactly what i was looking for! i believe i can get all the parts to that recipe, ive never seen epsoma nutes, but ill start looking around...seems much cheaper, especially when bails of peat are only $13, and 3 cuft of perlite is like $20 online
thats what im saying. i had this same delimma a few years back and thats when i tried the base recipe from lc's mix for my outdoor plot. really cut costs mixing my own. i found though after the first year that the soil was drying a little too fast and then it hit me that this is a POTTING SOIL recipe. i cut the perlite out completely and its been great. since you said water isnt an issue though maybe you will be good with this but you could probably get away with 10% perlite and just mulch your plants IMO. anyways im confident this will work great for you and i wish you luck this year.
about the nutes, you can find epsoma brand at home depot or loews but like i said the nutes you can choose to your liking. i like epsoma because their cheap, organic and easy to use. you can easily apply it to soil mixes with the reccomended rates of the manuacturer. for the plant-tone fertilizer i mentioned, i contacted epsoma about the amounts of ferts to add and they suggested 4 1/2 cups per cu ft and the plant starter has the rates broken down on the bag per cu ft measurements. after the first 30 days i just topdressed the dry ferts in as i needed peice of cake. im using liquid ferts this year my self. curious to see if there will be a difference in growth and yeild. guess we will see. im just going to use the plant starter in my mix and once the little girls get settled they should be ready for some liquid goodness.
