Nope, I have never seen a sparking microwave. I don't own a microwave and haven't for years, that's actually kind of weird I didn't know they sparked at all, haha..

If so, then there's your catalyst.

I like 420 cleaner(s) :) Basically same thing as the salt and rubbing alcohol, but i really prefer the fruity smell while im cleaning my pipes haha. Hate the smell of rubbing alcohol >_<
Also just feel like it works faster ;)

Do you honestly know what you're talking about? Could you explain what happens on a scientific level? And what the catalyst would be?

Not being rude, I'm okay with being wrong, especially if I learn something ;)
Lets say our intrepid op does place flammable liquids in a zip lock w/ his pipe in the microwave. Plastic bag tips over so in a flash of brilliance he grabs a coffee cup and places the whole she-bang in it.
In the heat of the moment he does not remember its his personalized monogrammed cup with the fancy gold lettering (or forgets the screen in the pipe, or that the cup has decorative metallic piping etc...) - - -. Boom ! :fire:

I doubt that either alcohol or acetone will get hot enough on its own in such a short span of time, but when warmed both will begin gassing off quickly & any spark will result in a rapid microwave immolation.

Microwave ovens can spark when the magnetron comes on, and if there is metal in there they will easily spark. Hot solvent vapors in a closed box with a spark source ... I just remembered something I left in the car, uh, be right back ...

<edit> This is what i get for not reading the next page. :bear wears dunce cap: cn

What works really really well for de-grunging glass is oven cleaner. It's not good for skin however ... wear good rubber gloves ... cn

Run your pipe under hot water in the sink, maybe set it on a towel so it doesnt' roll around and break while falling into the drain, thin glass doesn't take much to break it. Don't be a dumbass and boil it, you have to handle the pipe afterwards and it makes the house stink alot worse than just hot water under the sink. Besides, hot tap water will be enough to get it prepped.

Now put rubbing alcohol and salt inside leaving a void so it can slosh around in there, but not just any salt, KOSHER SALT, again this works better if the glass is warm from the hot water. Regular table salt doesn't have the same cutting power. Really, they are worlds apart in comparison when cleaning resin. Put your finger over the mouth piece and your thumb inside the bowl, and shake that bitch like it owes you money. Change the position of the pipe and the motion in which you shake it(swirl, switch hit, whatever you gotta do), you have to create the right kind of flow inside your pipe so the kosher salt can have a chance to rub up against all surfaces. When finished flush with pure rubbing alcohol and then follow with just hot water.

It should look like the day you bought it when you are done, assuming you bought it new.

I stand by the rubbing alcohol and BB's.... Works everytime....

All tho spandy did a much better job of describing the actual process....

I actually used to use bbs as well, until they chipped the very bottom of my bowl from racing down the pipe and smacking it right where the tiny hole is in the bottom of the bowl when I was shaking it. I'm sure you've never broken a pipe, but I have and thats why I quit using bbs.

If you want a gentle and effective way of getting into the crannies ... a pinch of black (magnetic) sand, moved around with a neodymium magnet, along with your cleaner of choice, e.g. isoporpanol. Strong scrubbing action without scratches or the fear of fast BBs chipping the glass. Waaaay better than salt. Jmo. cncn
