So are there still no THCV strains on the market?

Does anyone know if you can buy seeds or clones of really high THCV strains, yet? I don't mean something like, "try land races from X or Y, the can have THCV in them," but like actual confimed clones or stabilized seeds?
Since most people can still only grow medically in the us I'm surprised that high thcv strains are still being horded like big pharma patents.

no

its even more minor than cbd. highest tested thcv is like 1%. to get to the point where you'd have high thcv seeds you're talkin genetic modifiication.

that strain claims to have high levels of thcv and other african sativas, durban poison, like u said

If someone were to breed for THCV with selection based on testing for THCV levels I would imagine they could slowly build up THCV levels and perhaps even hit 5% in a few years. It would take a lot of time shotgunning beans and testing for THCV levels to select the phenotype for breeding, then rinse and repeat, over and over and over. I am honestly surprised nobody has undertaken this endeavor yet, or perhaps they have and it just isn't progressing very fast.

Also I am excited to try the durban poision I am getting ready to chop. My first experience with that strain, so far I am impressed. The smell is a strange sweet aroma that reminds me of a solvent that my dad used to have around when he ran color offset presses in the garage. Buds are big and reasonably dense, yields look to be on the higher side. Here is a photo I took at day 65:

I have three of this cut growing, two are my girls plants and she plans to start chopping tomorrow. Lots of cloudy and milky trichomes right now, very few amber. I will wait longer on mine, maybe another week and see how the high varies.

Found this in a google search:

In a specific 1973 study, one South African strain was found to have a THCV level of over 53%. Your best bet when seeking high THCV strains is to focus on African sativas. Here is a list of high THCV strains that you might want to get your teeth into:

  • Doug’s Varin: 24.3%
  • Pineapple Purps: 4%
  • Slim Hash (A shatter): 38.44%
  • Ace of Spades (A shatter): 2.4%
  • Agent Orange Nug Run (A shatter): 1.9%
As you can probably guess, Doug’s Varin and Slim Hash are specially bred to have an insanely high THCV content. Slim Hash was created by Andrew Campbell and his creation won an award at the 2017 Cannabis Classic. Willie Nelson is also a high THCV strain, though it is difficult to find reliable data on the actual THCV content.

I'm aware this thread is a couple of months stale, but felt it worthwhile to attempt a resurrection.

I am also on the hunt for a reliable source of THCV, and am more than a bit frustrated that there are no generally available strains with significant concentrations above 1%. Like you, I've read all of the recommendations of where to look (S. African sativas, SE Asian landrace, etc.), but since everyone has been focused on THC and CBD, the lack of selection pressure has caused the concentrations of other cannabinoids to gradually diminish.

I've tried Durban Poison (Dutch Passion), and, though I haven't had it tested, I'm pretty confident from the effects that the THCV is pretty low.

There is a seeming newcomer to breeding out of Spain that I just learned of:

Their goals seem to be focused on breeding strains high in particular cannabinoids (including THCV) and terpenes

I'd be curious as to strains you've tried in search of THCV and your experience. @Renfro, how did your Girl's DP turn out? Which breeder?
