Snow for watering

Snow is a 'natural scrubber' for the air. It traps dust, pollen, pollution, bacteria, poop, etc. Not the greatest idea.

I've watched enough mountain climbing documentaries and shows like "I Shouldn't Be Alive" to know that this is going to be a mighty task.

I pull my water out of the tap pretty warm then let it aerate for a bit and add my nutrients. If it's too warm I'll throw a couple of shovels of snow in it. never had any problem. My tap water is 100 ppm and about 6 ph from what people have told me. I don't have a meter. I've always used rain water when I could and it always seemed to perk up my plants. Lots of dissolved o2 and nitrogen from what I've read. Just watch your temps.

<<To give you an idea of yield… with lighter snow, three 5 gallon buckets of snow yielded almost six gallons of water. Not too bad.
After a heavy, slushy snowfall, these same three buckets yielded eleven and a half gallons of water. That’s much>>

I’m more concerned the snow is from seawater.
You shouldn't get the salt but if you're concerned you can buy saline test strips to test for it. If you're curious just google "pool salt test strips". At cold temperatures (starting around 65ish) you can see P uptake issues and slow your growth. Best of luck and report back.

A sealed (eliminates evaporation) five or six gallon bucket of hard pack is yielding around half in water. It’ll take 48 hours to thaw completely in the basement. Gallon ziplocks on a radiator would be quick. 10 ppm vs 4 for distilled and 110 for tap. PH pen is crap and needs batteries or calibration but surprisingly the snow has the highest pH. More on that maybe later.

Been a week, no complaints. I watered one and i swear it improved the smell after a couple hours. So i watered the rest with it just now. Six gallon bucket of hard pack yielded over 3 gallons in 36 hours at less than 70°f. A fresh 12” nor’easter coming down nowbongsmilie
