I have a smart pot I havnt had a chance to use, wanted to see if I could do a little something along the lines so took a five gallon bucket and in addition to drainage holes I drilled maybe 20 1/2 inch holes in the sides, 4 rows of five on the "sides" of the bucket (do round buckets have sides?) Either way 4 rows of five holes. It didnt leak dirt or anything, well push came to shove and they had to get lost and I was very very impressed with the large root growth when I yanked em, it definitely made a difference adding hella side holes, who knows maybe 8 rows of five woulda been better, dries the soil a little quick but it was impressive, I figured I'd throw it out there because if you've got the buckets already its cheaper then buying the smart pots and likely to be just as good, I just saw you bought em tho, can always make it four lovely ladies and see what works best if your one to expirement
