Small SCROG Grow Cabinet Advice

So... I've been out of the game for 3 years. About to move and my new place calls for a stealth grow. I have a big steel trunk 1000/600/550mm (About 40/24/22 inches). It's is bigger than some of the micro grows I have seen around but fairly small considering I have a taste for sativa. I have SCROG'd before and this will be my method of choice probably along with bubbleponics.

Based on the limited space and info above my questions to you are as folllows:

1. What lighting do you suggest for this size? I am prepared to thoroughly ventilate.
2. The steel is pretty thin so I think I want to semi-sound-proof the box but don't want to sacrifice grow space or increase insulation too much as it can get quite hot where I live. What could I use?
3. This is a loaded question. I have a pretty decent workshop to work out of: All the hand tools and power tools I could ever neeed, Drill Press, TIG Welder and even 3D Printers.... the list goes on but I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what can be done with these resources at your finger tips in order to take a small grow to the next level.

I have more to talk about, for example aquaponics and help deciding on seed order but for now I would like to hear what you have to say about my future grow.

Sounds like you have a lot of great tools for the project. I wouldn't be too concerned about sound proofing anything unless your fan or light make an awfully loud buzz. Is the box 40" tall? It may get pretty hot so in my opinion I'd go with 250w light. Hydrofarm makes a great light that is switchable between MH & HPS. So many routes to take with your tool selection. Do you have pics of the box?

I will take some today but it is really just a trunk that I will turn on its side. Yes it is only 40" tall and I agree that heat could be an issue so I have assumed there will be a decent sized fan hence the sound-proofing. It is planned to be in my bedroom so needs to be very quiet. Unfortunately I am in South Africa so I would like to avoid buying online but I must say that bulb sounds perfect! I actually had my doubts about whether a 250 would be too hot for the box. Was thinking that due to the short veg phase I am going to be doing could I not just use a big flouro or will I lose out on yield?

You could use a large fluorescent for vegging but I would use the HPS in the flowering department. Your baby could really use the reds of the HPS spectrum.

Agreed, I think I will try out my friends 150 for the first grow which will probably be Moby Dick Auto. That way I can test my ventilation etc. before trying anything bigger. I will just use some thin foam or similar as a cheap soundproofing solution.

As for the general mod's to the box, I have been looking through the DIY section and am open to all suggestions. I may weld in a res as a permanent feature, will obviously have to line it with something. I will weld up a SCROG net frame and 3D print as many fittings and brackets as possible.
