Small Legal Colorado Skylight Grow

Hi everybody. Now that pot is legal here in sunny Colorado I decided to try a small, legal (three flowering plants) grow. I started three OG Blue clones in solo cups. They were around 18" tall when I transplanted them to a five gallon bucket filled with Promix. They get around five hours of direct sunlight from a clear old fashioned skylight that's about two feet from the top of the plants. I switched them to 12/12 last night. I started three more clones today, which I will put into 12/12 when these are ready to harvest. At harvest the clones get moved to the big bucket and we start all over again.

Any guesses or advice re yield/quality/harvest date/flowering nutes etc would be welcome. I'll post new pics and progress reports frequently.

Not a lot of skylight interest out there huh? Here they are at 2 weeks into flowering. They were cloned on 4/20 (really).

Hey Baxter, I'm interested! Those look good to me. I'm in CO too and am growing a plant on my deck. First time growing outside.

I grew mine from seed. I call it the runt because it got a slow start indoors and i threw it outside just for the hell of it. It's now 4 feet tall and in 5 gal bucket. I hope it will flower but i'm next to a major road and have big street lights around me. It's in fox farm soil and every other watering or so I throw fox farm big bloom at it.

How do you switch your sky light plants to 12/12???

Thanks for your interest! I have three plants in a 5 gal bucket. The bucket gets taken out of a closet at 6:30 AM and placed right under the skylight. They go back to bed at 6:30 pm. I'm starting to think they knew what they were doing when they came up with the 6 total/3 flowering thing.

I like not having to worry about outdoor hazards (bugs, disease, neighbors etc.) but also getting free, powerful natural sunlight. I understand that if I want to grow in the winter I will have to buy a light to use before flipping or just send the clones straight to flowering and expect lower yields but shorter grow times. Good luck with your grow.

Good luck with your grow. Why only one plant? I would transplant that baby into a five gallon container and flip it now.

That's awesome Baxter! Having a skylight to grow under would be great. Keep posting, I want to see how it all turns out. I'd like to be able to get clones as well but for now i think I'd have to get a medical card to buy them. Growing from seeds sucks.

I've done both and I prefer clones. It's legal for someone to give you clones even if you don't have a card.

yo skylight has clear glass or opens up

most i have seen has a tint on glass

I love the idea of using a skylight to grow!

Using the sun in general is a great idea. I cannot, for now.

It's clear alright. Here's a better look at my setup. I flipped them to 12/12 around two weeks ago, and my "technical adviser" stopped by yesterday to check them out. He said my total yield for all three plants will be 1/2 oz of dried bud??!! That seems awfully low. I don't see how three indoor flowering plants can supply even one patient unless you're some sort of master grower.

At two weeks they should be about half done with their stretch,
or so I have seen with the breeds that I have grown so far.
(it varies a great deal among breeds)

I am terrible at predicting yield, but expect that they will get a
good chunk bigger before they are done.

I wouldn't have three plants in 1 5 gallon pot...if they were all in there own container you'd get a much better yield...but I still say way more than 1/2 oz, I'm gonna say at least 2 oz there. I do 2 flowering plants and usually get 6-8 oz's. But they look awesome, way to keep em green!

I agree that three pots would have been better; higher yields and more exercise for me schlepping them in and out of the dark closet.

i think they look great for 3 plants in a bucket under a skylight! i'm sure you'll get way more than 1/2 OZ out of this. at least we hope so.

it would be interesting to track how much light you get through your skylight through the year, and what kind of light footprint happens. i wonder if you'd have better results trying a SOG grow with smaller pots, or a constant autoflower grow.

Way to work with what you've got! Love the ingenuity here... thought the roots of the three plants will compete with eachother i've seen alot of success in "beds" with multiple plants per container so we won't jump to any conclusions. As for the dry weight.. i'd say closer to an ounce once dry and cure. They look to be what? Roughly 18 to 24 inches from top of soil? All in all pretty healthy for the conditions. I wish you a fruitful harvest my friend! This was fun to see.. as a colorado local myself I always appeciate what the neighbors have cookin

Exactly 4 weeks since the flip to 12/12. I've been using an early flowering nute for the past week or so. They are LOADED with very sticky buds. Not a lot of smell yet which is great. It looks like it will be a decent yield.

Thanks! They're clumping out quite nicely. These really haven't stretched much at all since I transplanted them from their Solo clone cups. They were very old (2 months) tall "clones" when I got them. If I end up with three 12 inch megabuds I'll be happy, but 24 8 inch colas would be even nicer.

I have always wanted to put skylights in for this very reason. I like your thinking man.
