Small growbox ??'s First grow!=)

Hey everyone! I'm getting my plans ready to make my first small grow in my apt. The largest I can make it is 16" X 12" X 32". Still looking into what strains I would like to work with.(If anyone has any suggestions, I really enjoy a good indica that I can still function semi normally with for outdoor activities). Anyway, my main questions are about my lighting and venting. My thoughts were since its a small growbox and the walls will be covered in mylar, 150w hps will do the trick? And what kind of airflow control will I need (i.e 1 exhaust fan and open hole for neg pressure, or 1 exhaust and 1 intake fan, etc..). The help is much appreciated! Peace

The 150w hps should do fine, but it may get a little hot. You are probably best off having a couple cfl (compact florescent lights) instead. Also I would have both an intake fan to bring in fresh air and an exhaust fan to bring out the hot and stale air. I would recommend using at least 100cfm fan for both. Hope this helps some!

How many plants were you trying to grow at at certain time under that 150w? It should work as long as you don't cramp the space! For the airflow. You should have at least 1 intake and 1 exhaust. I currently have that setup of fans with my current grow and it works perfect but I don't have an HPS which make more heat so you might want to have 2 exhaust and 2 intake to keep the temps in a good range. + rep would be nice! I'll be looking at your grow so keep us updated!

Thanks for the quick responses guys!.. I have been having the cfl vs. hps debate with myself for a while lol. I get so many mixed messages about quality of buds when I try to research them. If I did go with them, how many of each(65's and 27's) would you recommend? As far as how many plants, I was going to go with 2, but I may get square pots. They'll fit better and may get me up to 3 or 4. I guess that will come down to how big the strains I go for are. Once I get everything decided and get my next paycheck I'll get pics and logs up! like me im building a 20in by 20in grow box,ive learnt that 4 such a stealthy space needs the right air flow 4 the plant,not feeling like a tornado.In a small space like this a 4in p.c fan(12v) will do the job,a intake fan isnt needed,only a hole half the size opposite the exhaust fan,thus drawing air pass the air past the plant giving co2 to the leaves.It is advisable to cover the hole(intake)with a net(e.g tights)to stop particals,dust entering box.Insert fan into box,sealing air tight,then pass through small pipe with bend(if poss)& into box filled with activated carbon granules,or passing into mesh tube with capped end & filter covering mesh.If budget is holding u back,get inventive,but remember chopperz cant see cfl growlamps as they are cold,so no probs with heat in ur box,not like the Mh lamps,sodium etc,they are cheap,i dont agree with the cultivation of the plant but its amazing wot u pick up! Normal household cfl's-no good,plug 'n' grow-yes,remember,around 40w per sq ft,why not get a 125w & be done with it,dual spectrum.Thats e-nuff info 4 now.

i would tell you for lighting go with a couple 125watt flouro bulbs you can make a homemade cheap fixture just search youtube for cfl hood diy. i have a small workspace(not that small) but it works wonderfully. just so you know an hps light will cover an area of about 1.5' x 1.5' but will produce extensive heat so be sure to intake fresh air and exhaust hot air. a good strain for beginners is Aurora Indica. Mango(i dont remember if this is idica or sativa) but its a great strain for beginners. Another good strain to start with is Rasberry Cough.
also if you are looking for a plant that will grow quickly and stay small then you may want to look into an autoflower strain from attitude however autoflower plants have a tendency to yield a small amount depending on which strain is grown. but research them anyways...

hi lads, im also a noob and am about to begin growing my first own bud.

ive gathered information for a week now and here is a list of equipments im going to be using....after you folk's suggestions. Please feel free to tell me whats good/wrong with these equipments, or even how to get cheaper versions. Im going to plant 4 plants aiming around 80cm tall as room is an issue for me.

1. Dimmable lumatek digital ballast 600W ($263)
2. Sunmaster 400W and 600W Dual spectrum grow lamp - 55,000 and 90,000 lumens respectively ($63)
3. Euro budget reflector ($30)
4. pair of easy-roll adjusters ($12)
5. maxiswitch 2-way light controller (10A) - day/night ($63)
6. RUCK100A - acoustic ducting - 230m3/hr - good for 600watts of light ($191)
7. budget 5 filter use for 125mm ($70)
8. bud box 75cm x 75cm x 100cm ($124)

Total of $814 but with discount and finding some other cheaper prices on ebay i believe i can get it down to around $650

Is this a good setup though? i dont have the chance to talk to anyone about it so i rely fully on this forum but people tend not to reply my threads....

Also do i need another fan for inlet/exhaust?

And is the 2 way light controller really necessary?


What other equipments apart from nutrients and soil that i need?
