Sleeping aids

So I'm having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. Part of it is due to a screwed up sleeping pattern but I think there are other things going on in addition.

Do you guys have troubles sleeping?

How do you cope?

I'd like to avoid sleeping pills. I'm looking for more holistic remedies. What do you guys got?

i suffered with insomnia for 5 years due to ptsd from a combat deployment back in 05-06. After seeing numerous therapists ,psychologists, sleep therapy groups. been on ambien , celexa, seraqual all for sleep and it all just made it worse. I noticed that bad sleep is just a combination of bad habits. It really is a very shitty tiresome, tortures habit as well.
I work on my sleep habits now such as i never study, eat, watch tv or anything of the sort in my bed just sleep and fuck in it.
And try not to take any speeds at least 8 hours before i take adderall for school and make sure i take my last one by 3pm so i can sleep by 3am.
Hope this helps a bit if anything get some melatonin its natural.

Melatonin, that sounds familiar...Will look into it.

Yeah I know what ya mean about doing things in bed other than sleeping and fucking. As I type this, I'm in bed. I tried sleeping, couldn't, so I got on my laptop. Happens every single night haha. Gonna shut it down and listen to some drone. Hopefully that will do the trick!

what you want is natural sleep? then go about natural ways to get it.. there are many substances that will knock you out, but in most cases you will wake up unrested, feeling tired and lethargic mostly/all day, diet is also important, if you aren't eating regularly or over eating that will effect your metabolism, which can throw off your sleep pastern, or vise versa.

xanax always gets me to sleep and i am a light sleeper.

i only use them if i cannot get ANY sleep after a trip .

but that means I dosed too late at night, which is not good.

working on the mind and spirit is an awesome thing.
just dont forget your body.

Light over the counter sleeping aids are not so hectic, as long as you don't use them nightly.

Melatonin is a endogenous neurotransmitter with its precursor playing an important role in much of the fun we like to have here ;). It is what is largely responsible for causing us to fall to sleep if I'm not mistaken. An it can only be produced in the body naturally in the absence of lighting. Make sure to turn off any lighting in your room before you go to bed if you don't already :D. I find Valerian Root extract to be a surprisingly effective holistic medicine; you can pick up a small vial of it at a GNC or Multivitamin shoppe. Most sleep aids even OTC's are theorized to some how shorten life expectancy so try not to become depended on one for a daily good nights sleep.

Benzos well yeah, but within a week or 2 of constant use there sleep inducing properties are almost non existent, occasionally they are ok.

Brownies help me sleep, but you want to make a less potent batch for sleeping, not a green death batch

Zopiclone/Immovane is good, no drowsiness the next day at all, wake up feeling refreshed, but if you get the most common side effect which is the most rancid, metallic bitter taste in your mouth for around half the next day, then they are only good if you can put up with that. Even water tastes disgusting.

Natural - valerian LOL

Limit the distractions in your bedroom and only go to bed when you are actually tired, or if your mrs is offering a BJ :peace:

I'm a lifelong insomniac, it fucking sucks.
For "natural" remedies (what's the difference between a chemical made by a tree and a chemical made by man anyway?) the best is taking 5-10g of tryptophan is the best for me. I've never gotten any help from melatonin. Valarian root helps some people. L-theanine (found in some green teas) works well for some people, but don't take it all the time. It's an analog of GHB, albeit far less potent.
For rx meds there's various tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, benzos, the z drugs (nonbenzodiazepines, like ambien), GHB (good luck getting a script for it), and rozerem. Rozerem is interesting because it works on the melatonin receptors. It seems to work in about half the patients who take it. And for them it is awesome, and it seems to work long term.

Good luck getting some sleep

I take a generic ambien (Zolpidem 10mg), turn the A/C down to about 68 degrees and crank up a fan for the white noise. Works for me every time and no hangover from the meds.

I`m having problems with it too. Cannabis works wonders for me but I don`t have it around enough for this task.

I`m going to solve it by eating properly and signing up to the gym/swimming pool and yoga helps too :)

Have you tried exercise? I used to have trouble sleeping and regular exercise fixed that. That was one of the only things that worked for me aside from getting drunk/high before bed. I also recommend white noise, it helped a lot... until my fan broke and I had to try doing without till I got paid.:-| You grow dependent on it after awhile.
