Skipping 1gal, going to 3gal?

I've always been a fan of sizing. It comes from a background in horticulture, floriculture, and nursery work. It just means you size the container for the size of the plant. Repeat as necessary. Not sure if is essential but it always worked

I look st it this way. I grow in soilless medium (pro mix) and I feed in water-feed-water cycles. If I put A small plant in a big pot., then it takes the medium too long to dry out between feedings. Less medium means less time between feedings. At the present time I water and feed 1/ week. Of course you water around the seeding in a big pot but I like more control.
The plant will spend all of its time making roots instead of concentrating on foliage etc that will lead to flower production. It will delay things.

I go from seedling to 4" to gallon to about a short 3 gal. That's it. Coco - perlite. The 4" plants fill the 1 gallons in about 6 days. They just seem to really respond and the roots are just great. Keep in mind I'm just a hobby grow. I find watering/feeding a smaller container for a smaller plant is a short and very sweet way to go.

I have it in a solo cup at the Time being, just don't want to order another smart pot lol, but will run to my local hydro store to see if they have any 4" and gallon pots, thank you for the input

What's your view on foliar feeding?

I can't honestly give you one because I've never done it. It's very effective but you can't do it on seedlings. It's excellent to supplement or to treat deficiencies with faster results.

would I get any negative effects from putting a seedling into a 3 gal smart pot rather than a 1 gal?
When you go with graduated containers, solo,1gl,3gl etc the roots fill the entire containers so when they go into the final container there is a large root mass if you go from small into big the roots don't grow into the entire media. the more roots the more production.

This is what I was trying to say.
