That's pretty much the same kind of set up I did. I just used bus tubs and smart pots so I could keep each plant on a separate rez since I run different plants. It's working I just have to fine tune it.

I'm a little late but it may be of interest if your still swicking.
eliminate the perlite and just drape wick over some sort of plant support.
first I used an old sip insert and made a wick from an old fabric bag, the plant did just fine but seeded a bit heavy. I've since cut out a hole in the center and drilled more holes in the plate.
I just ordered 2 wick plates I can use for swick, wick, or sip if I fill the riser legs with soil.

I no longer run it as a SIP. The link in my signature for shed conversion is what I run now (but with 2 beds now). I use blumats connected to gravity fed rain barrels. I still have the SIP setup for the beds with the fabric bed over grwo stones, but I added a drain hose so that if for some reason the blumats fail and begin nonstop dripping, it can't overflow. I've been running it this way for the past few years. When I check on my plants, I rarely worry about water now days and never need to manually water them.

Cheers, appreciate the reply. Do you find the grow stones/pumice stones increase humidity alot more?

Not really too bad. I originally posted this while I was in a basement in a humid area. If it was humid outside it was humid inside either way, but I didn't find filling the bottom raised humidity too terribly much.
