Hey everybody, I just saw this quick simple custom setup for cfls.. I couldn't get the specific link cuz I'm on my phone, but here's the google link, just scroll down n it's the first YouTube video titled: How To Build a CFL Grow Light Fixture - CHEAP!
I only plan on growing 2 plants at a time.. N I will also add a cfl to the side of each plant as well... So watcha guys think I should do?

A cheap cfl fixture is to take a power strip, put those plugs in that have a socket on the other end, 3 of them is good and space them out. Then put Y adapters in those to make each hold two bulbs. Then put 42w cfls in and mount it overhead. 252 watts and easy to mix 6500k and 2700k.

Upeople and ur lighting.. Jibberish to me lol.. Did u see the video? I'm just looking to see if that's good for an overhead lighting structure. U mean put 3 y adapter in there? N have 6 lights uptop? Is that necessary? I'm only growing 2 plants at a time, it wouldn't be better to have like 2 cfls uptop n two more on each plant(one on opposite sides of the plant)?

that's a slick diy reflector. I think the y adaptor would work better in it. I really like Illegal's suggestion of the power strip, a little more compact and easy to manage, and damn you can get some wattage going. whoa

I'm not getting a detailed mental image.. Anyway u could describ that setup a Lil more in detail? I gave u both +rep for immidiate response

oh, it was ventilation sheet metal, maybe 6 inch tubing, 8 foot lamp cord, and a socket to hold the lights. Unroll the tubing into a reflector shape, cut hole, insert socket, hang with chains.

or a powerstrip with the plug-in light sockets, then a y splitter for two bulbs, screw bulbs in hang powerstrip. Hope some of this is helping.

Tsunami, ur sayin just attach a powerstrip BECAUSE in illegals advice he's using like 3x as many bulbs as in the video right?

And use Y adapters instead of a horizontal adapter cuz the light is directed downward twards te plants more? Just trying to get a good idea of how n why

I believe illegal is just running a powerstrip no reflector. He is using 6 bulbs on one powerstrip. It all depends on what you want to do, a reflector with many lights, two lights or no reflector and just powerstrip with 6-8 lights.

in cfls they produce more of the light from there sides so the trick is getting most of the light you can to the plants the power strip is a good idea and doesnt cost much like 2 bucks a Y connector 2 bucks a bulb to plug adapter 8 bucks a power strip then prolly 3 to 14 bucks a bulb depends on what ya get

the other one can be adapted to hold more lights but you have to use smaller wattage cus those 68w are big lol

either way its not hard

maybe a combination of the two would be really cool

a power strip hung in the ac duct tube with Y connectors thats 12 bulbs in a hood that would work nicely....my 26 w bulbs are 1750 lumens a peice with 12 ud be 21,000 lumens depending on your grow room size (SQFT) that would put you rite over the 3000 min per sq ft ratio for sure

Yeah, the Y adapters just seem to throw light in different directions vs a horizontal. If you want to run a reflector you can just flatten it out when using a Y. Kinda like a an upside down V.

Or an upside down y lol.. Thanks I'm going to home depot to see what they got right now.. I'm gonna b posting in 15 when I'm at the store fighting myself over which bulb to get lol, hope u guys r still around in a few!!

tip: ignore the equivalent value look at lumens and K temp then the watts...... ideal is 26w and up but you got an idea of that

and take your room width and length multiply that for your sq foot.... find the lights lumens and add all them together for your total lumens then divide that by your rooms square ft and make sure that number is over 3000

example( room 2wx3l=6sq ft ,, 12 lights at 1750= 21,000lumens , 21,000lumens/ 12sqft= 3500lumens per sq foot)
