Simple DIY CFL holder

I don't know about you guys, but to me, the hardest part of growing with CFLs so far is making them stay where I want them so that they are close enough to the plant, but not touching and frying off any fan leaves.

I came up with a simple solution, and it worked out way better than I could have hoped for, so I thought I would share. There is, however, a catch. Good luck finding wire clothes hangers!!! All you need is that and a wall hook.

OoOoOoOo. very nice little setup, simple and sleek...yet very inefficient. I'm working on a new box right now, definitely gonna use this in a few spots for supplemental lighting =]

Nice! I found a way to keep my plants from burning - I took half a 2 liter soda bottle (cut in half) and attached it over the cfl bulb. It acts as a sort of a hood. One end is open, so I find the heat is not too bad for the light, and the plants do not get burnt. I will try to take a pic soon.

Thats a good idea, bro. the one plant I have under CFL right now is freakin ate up with tiny little burnt leaf tips from when it started the stretch. It grows so damn fast and I have to keep the lights so damned close that I had to move the lights like twice a day and I was still letting it touch a little. The thing is tho, I dont think it really hurts the plant. I think of it as minor bug damage...trivial and superficial, but still ugly. The lights will be on in like 10 minutes, maybe I'll show off a couple of pictures.

Glad you like the idea. I think you will like it even more when you actually do it. You will see that you can literally position the bulb any way you want, in 360 degrees, any angle, or compound angle. Also, the hangers I was lucky enough to come across dont seem to sag over time. I thought the weight of the bulb would slowly adjust the hanger downward, but the memory of the wire seems to be strong enough to resist the weight of the light. It just all worked out perfectly.
