Silca gel packets for drying/curing?

I was thinking that having a few packets will help speed up drying time. Odor is kind of an issue for me. So, i was thinking I could have these in a jar, box, or bag and keep it sealed so that the packets would absorb moisture and would eliminate the need for burping or circulation.

Has anyone ever tried this? Does anyone know if it safe to use or would effect potency/aroma? Finally, where can one get these?

ic, i thought the circulation and burping was just so moisture doesn't build up and cause mold and spoilage. I was thinking that these packets would do the job cause they're used in food packaging to prevent spoiling by absorbing moisture. So fresh air is essential?

I am not a veteran grower, but have had a couple of good cycles. Also I am a General Contractor. I think it is all about air circulation. I think the packets would help, but you need the air movement to dry out anything. Weather it is sheetrock mud or buds. I actually think the air moving is more important than the humidity in the air. But again I am kinda noobish.

do one jar with one jar cured the standard way and see. i use silica for seed storage but never for curing i do know if enough is present(silica beads) that humidity wont go higher than 40%

Those little packs won't do anything except in a tiny space like a pack of cookies. if your humidity is high a dehumidifier is best but for a dessicant use sidewalk salt. Put out a big pan and you will see how fast it is sitting in liquid, that's how much moisture it absorbs. It's heavy and you have to haul a lot in and out, but you can save it and reuse it on your icy sidewalks!

i think deicers are magnesium based nowadays to not corrode everything.

Well, I'm going to try out a moisture absorbing substance vs. nothing and see how it works out.

Oh, I didn't realize it was like that. I would not try drying without a de-humidifier because I would worry about mold. The silica or rock salt would be a good addition, but not my only means.
