Side lighting idea

I have an idea for some side lighting on my first grow. I am planning on doing 2-4 plants and I have always thought that some good side lighting would help out a lot. I would like to vertically mount a 400w CMH in the center of 4 plants without a reflector, or if I only do 2 plants then to the side of 2 plants in a reflector.

This is the part I haven't figured out yet. I would then need to set all the plant pots on a turntable to slowly rotate them so they all receive an even amount of light. I have never seen anything like this used before. Good idea?? any comments?

edit.. I will also have a horizontal 400w CMH above all plants.

Side lighting isn't anything new... people have been using side lighting for a long time.

but yea, its a good idea to use side lighting. I've even seen people put a few CFL bulbs.. underneath their plants.

I personally wouldn't take it that far.. but side lighting def. does help.

Yeah I use CFL's on the side of my grow as I can't afford to run another HID vertically lol and don't really need to but not under

Ya I know it isn't a new thing but I usually see people using cfl's. I have never seen any HID's on the side. I just had the thought last night, and thought it was a good idea, and common.. spinning plants hah.

ya plus i think that guys grow all died or something if i remember right haha he must have spent sooo much money on that crazy setup too lol. but really though... if you have the space to do hid side lighting without heat becoming an issue, give it a try and let us know how it goes!

edit: his whole grow went hermie haha. not saying its because of side lighting... dude just fucked up lol

Ya i just went through the thread real quick to see some pics and there weren't any.. that sucks. I'm saying this from what I have read seeing as how I have no experience using CMH lights, but I've read that they do not put off as much heat as hps or mh lights of the same wattage. Can someone who has used cmh lighting back that statement up?

Never used them but I have heard nothing but good things about CMH

i used 1000 watt side lighting plus 600 watts on top of each plant, it works great for me, i would only bother rotating them if u only had the side lightning but if u got lights on top i wouldnt bother especially all that hassle. but im no expert so maybe someone else has got a better idea
