When I agreed to test out the Williams Wonder ceeds from Sickmeds, the breeder, Red, asked me if I was willing to test out his Green Crack ceeds too. So I said, sure. . .why not?
But first (as always). . .the backstory.
Green Crack is a famous strain supposedly going back to the early 1990s in Athens Georgia. The strain itself is supposedly a cross of a late 1980s Super-Sativa-Seed-Club Super Skunk with an unknown California indica. This strain was never deliberately bred, it was basically just a one off cross that just turned out to be excellent, then maintained as clones. Once the strain made it over to the West Coast, supposedly Snoop Dogg and his crew got their hands on it, and loved it to the point where Snoop named it (tongue in cheek) "Green Crack".
Eventually the strain became famous in its own right, being one of the most well known and popular "clone only" strains. Apart from the pithy name, the strain is known for an unusual combination of a fast 7 week flowering time, speedy sativa-type high, strong mango-like fruity aroma, and relatively high potency.
Because many dispensaries don't want their product to be associated with hard drugs like cocaine, this strain does appear commercially under other names including "Green cush", "Green candy", and just "Cush" (with a "c").
In this particular case, the Sickmeds breeder Red told me he obtained two separate cuts of Green crack from two different sources just to compare them to ensure that his starting material was legitimate. Then he used colloidal silver to reverse one to create male flowers, then pollinated for S1 feminized ceeds.
Note that its a popular misconception that ceeds created by self-pollinating a mother plant will be identical to the mother. That's typically only true if the mother is itself an inbred line. If the mother is a hybrid (and by all accounts this line is), then a cross of a female plant with its own pollen is a usual sexual cross between hybrids that would be expected to throw off a number of phenos.
So in this case we should expect some phenotypic variation in the S1 feminized ceeds. The breeder has confirmed to me that this is the case, noting that although some phenos will be a little more indica-dominant and some more sativa-dominant, all of them should retain the characteristic fruity scent and fast flowering time. A super-purist may not want this variation, but until/unless someone does the hard breeding work to create a Green-crack derived stable line, this sort of S1 hybrid is probably the closest representation you can get of this line in ceed form.
There was one other breeder selling feminized S1 Green Crack ceeds at one point, though his asking price was quite high, and I'm not sure they are still available anymore. So far as I know, these are the closest thing out there to a true Green Crack in ceed form right now.
My questions for this grow are just the following:
-Will these plants have the same characteristic fruity smell/flavor as the original?
-Will the line be potent?
-Will the flowering time be fast like the original?
That's probably all you really need out of something like this, and I'd say if the answer to all three question is "yes" I'd count the line as good.
On this grow journal, all comments and question are welcomed, so long as they're civil.
Also, feel free to share any experiences you've had with Green Crack, growing it, smoking it, good or bad.
