Sick Seedling :( Save my Blue Cheese.

Hello fellow stoners :) I was hoping yous could help me with my seedlings.

The first leaves on the older seedling started to go brown and it seems that around the edges and tips of some of the leaves it's black? Not sure what's up with that. The older seedling also seems to be yellowing from the outside edges of the leaves ever so slightly.

The other side...

The younger seedling started to show issues too. It's browning between the "veins" on the leaves. Also I noticed that a new pair of leaves that were growing out and they were kind of purple in the middle. I'm guessing this seedling is a goner.

Not exactly sure what the issue is right now but I think it could be the tap water I'm using? The PH is at 7 or slightly above, but my question is, does PH even matter for seedlings? I thought PH was only used for the plants nutrient uptake, but the seedlings use the food in the cotyloden for a while don't they?

I was also thinking it could be because of the cold weather as it is autumn over here but winter conditions are pretty much setting in already so temps can drop below 10 degrees celcius outside at times which causes the humidity to drop relatively.

What type of medium; soil or hydro? Hempy Bucket
What brand and type of soil? N/A 100% perlite, germed in jiffy pellets.
Indoors or outdoors? Indoor grow cab
What strain? Blue Cheese by Barneys Farm
How old are the plants? 1 - 2 weeks from germ
What type of lights and how many watts? CFL using one 24w 6500K bulb for each seedling.
How far from the lights? 5cm (2inches)
What is your watering frequency and source of water? Tap water, watering every 3rd day.
What are the temps and humidity in the room? 51% at 24 degrees celcius (75F)
What size pots? Red Party Cup for seedlings.
Any bugs? Look real close. First thing I thought it was, looked thoroughly and nothing.

Get them out of red party cups first of all, The plastic has BPA crap in in at the roots dont like that kind of plastic your roots will begin to start taking in those chemicals, also it kinda looks like you have a PH issue make sure your water is between 6.2 and 6.5 i run my clones at 80-82 degrees they grow the best at that temp

Plants are starving. Get some hydro veg nutes in there asap. Start at half str then full every feed/watering after that. feed every watering. You cant expect plants to grow in a perlite without feeding bro.

Welcome to RIU... as noted above, you need to feed those poor babies. Perlite has extremely little nutes, if any nutes at all.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Starving? Wtf are you guys smoking man.....

First of all, it's a seedling

Secondly, it's barely got 2 sets of leaves

Third, it's still got green catelydons - ding ding ding, no nutes needed yet

This plant looks like it's got necrosis from over-watering, maybe too high temps, not sure what his drainage is like either...how much water are you giving?

Honestly, I can see over-watering. Said he's watering every 3 days? There's barley a root on that plant. Fat downward curl on leaves looks over watered. Necrosis from root-rot is possible.

However, those are 2 weeks old, not 3 days (like they look). If those are 2 weeks old they should be getting some form of food. If you had them in regular garden soil it would be enough for a seedling but, a solo cup filled with perlite is doing nothing to promote root/plant growth so the plants are starving/stunted, as well.

So yeah, everyone's right imo. Get that thing potted.

ok fair enough, I'm just a noobie dirt grower, haven't tried anything else (yet!) so i guess u need to be pretty clued up about nutrients and plants requirements etc... if u gonna grow like this.

I am going to say over watering is the problem here. There shouldn't be any reason to water a plant every three days, at least it shouldn't if you are watering it correctly.

Yeah as a seedling they only need water like 2 times a week with proper drainage and potting. I think every noob has been overly excited on the first few times lol even me. Best thing to do in my opinion is pick 2 days to water them (Monday and Friday were my days) and on the other days just try to forget they are there.

I have a clone that is 3 weeks old with 4 sets of leaves and it hasn't needed a feed at all - every plant is different and you need to react and respond accordingly.

If the growth was pale yellow, I would say feed....what we are seeing is not a N deficiency, there are clearly spots with necrosis and plant matter dying off.

Damnnn guysss, I ended up feeding them a 1/4 dose of Lucas Formula because of the comments that said to feed, but they've showed no change anyways so hopefully its alright.

Not sure whether I should flush it real quick or to just leave it for now, probably just going to leave them for now.

@Shaded420 - Don't think it's high temps man, if anything the temps have been low due to the cold weather over here in Aus. Drainage is a 1cm large hole 1 inch from the bottom of the cup, I give enough water for there to be a little bit of run off and thats it.

@Sparkticus - When you say potted, you mean into soil right? Not sure how I'll go abouts doing that but I will definitely consider it. Was planning to stick to hempy though if I could.

But yeah guys what're your recommendations for watering? Was thinking of doing it like Mr High School suggested, to pick 2 days out of the week to water. But not sure if I should do it by a weight thing or by jamming my finger into the perlite to feel if its moist or not.

Anyways, the plan for now is to perhaps create another drainage hole in the cups and I'm going to forget about watering for the rest of the week.

Will update with more pics at the end of the weekend.

I really appreciate the help guys. Cheers.

Water when it needs it, like Shade said. Picking 2 days a week is still watering every 3 days, haha. In the beginning when the plant is young and the roots are small, it may need to be watered once a week. It's incapable of drinking a lot. I water every 2-3 days when my plant is in flower and sucking water like crazy.

And... I am a soil grower so, sorry if my info was directed to a different method. Either way the general ideas are the same. In the beginning the plant is going to need very little (water, nutes, etc.) to be healthy. Cannabis is hardy by nature. As the plant grows, you can and will need to increase these necessities to keep the plant healthy and producing at it's maximum.
