I generally top / fimm all my strains, however I did find that there are several strains that you do NOT want to top. Thats why the growers forums and Journals are so important. I have a Chronic strain that if you top it or fimm it, you would actually decrease the resulting yeild. Befor I start any strain, I look up everything I can on that strain and check out what others have discovered about it.
Chronic grows one massive central cola, with very little in the way of side colas. If topped, the result is a mass of small colas that will never produce as much as if it had been left alone.
I mention this only to show that each strain is slightyly different, and one size fits all type solutions are pointless as well. The best growers stick with a few quality strains and get to know them over many seasons of working with them, and paying attention to what that particluar strain requires. Rather than trying to grow a huge variety of strains.
The best tools in a gardeners workshop are knowledge, an inquisitive mind, and an ability to learn from the inevitable mistakes.
