Why should customers be expected to make up the difference in a living wage via tips instead of the employer?
Yes. Those poor cows.
Why should customers be expected to make up the difference in a living wage via tips instead of the employer?
Because it's not my responsibility to pay a company's employees a living wage, it's the employer's responsibilityWhy the hell would you abolish tips????
It's not mandatory here either, that's a big part of the problem inherent in the system. A waiter could give the best service and might still receive no tip, it's definitely looked down upon, but nobody is going to jail over not leaving a tip for good serviceWe dont have mandatory tipping in the UK thank fuck
Why do we allow some "jobs" to be exempt from minimum wage? It's not mandatory here either, that's a big part of the problem inherent in the system. I feel like tipping in America is just another way to shift the burden of another cost off onto the customer by subtly shaming people into it. If you don't tip, you're "cheap", that alone is enough to get 99% of people to leave a tip
So when you buy a cup of coffee you dont see it as paying the employees wage? Cause that is what you are doing either way...Because it's not my responsibility to pay a company's employees a living wage, it's the employer's responsibility

I think I have stiffed two wait people. They earned it. I politely told them why.I'll always tip, even if the service is shitty. I dunno, probably hypocritical of me, but I've got a soft spot having worked in the business for 20+ years.
You are basically saying that you are required to treat any employees as family.Employers should be forced to pay their employees a living wage. That's not just what I think is right, that's what's objectively right. If you disagree with that, I'd love to hear you your argument that reasons why you believe taxpayers should make up that difference through social safety net programs instead of employers
