should i use lime?

i went to the local garden center and they recommended that i use peletized lime to raise the ph in my soil and gave me a small bag. i have a 2 gallon pot and was wondering how much i should use...

i'm trying to get my ph to 6.5, i was feeding my plant nutrients without monitoring the actual level (didn't have my ph reader yet) and got a reading of 3 in one spot! (freaked me out and honestly feel bad for the plant!)... luckily its a resilient mother fucker and is still alive, i was flushing it for the past 3 weeks and all its doing is taking the minerals out and spreading the low ph more evenly across the soil...
how should i approach this?

ok since i'm nervous about it i want to just put 2 tblspns and see where it is, and if i need to i'll put the other 2 tblspns, how long does it take for it to react?

A week or so.

What are you nervous about? It is just ground up limestone (rock), and farmers have been using it ever since they could crush limestone in sufficient quantities.

The people at the garden center actually knew what they were talking about, unlike most 'grow shop/hydro store' employees, who just want to sell you useless shit.
