Should I trim or not?

Newbie here lol but just wanted to add something. My present grow of Critical Kush is appr. 5 feet tall in a flood and drain setup. The branches on the second node at bottom are as tall as the plants and have pretty big buds so if i would have trimmed them they would be gone! Some of the phenos have very little branching so my guess would be know your plant and trim and top accordingly. With the ones that didnt branch i wish now i would have atleast topped but others are doing just great with 5 or 6 big top colas.

gorgeous plants. nice job. after you harvest the top colas let the rest go for a week or so to let them ripen. do you have a microscope to check the trich color? they aren't expensive and you can see the amount of amber in the trichomes. you can get one from ebay or amazon.

From what I can see all that's going to be on those plants is colas...colas colas colas....I will reiterate that I would be pinching off any popcorn buds under the canopy, give those colas all the energy you possible can.....gorgeous plants, really outstanding......

Hi, Thanks for the feed back. Yes that sounds a good idea to let rest grow after top colas have been harvested. However, I use the box for drying as it has a carbon filter in it. So as I have nowhere else to dry the stuff it all has to come down at once. Any ideas?????

Yes I do have a cheap loupe. A very small part of some of the buds are amber but the rest clear or milky.

Thanks

When you say pinching off popcorn do you mean literally (with fingers)? Also I always worry about this as I feel I will be wasting some of the bud but what you say makes sense.

Do I take all the popcorn at once in one "pinching" session or over a few days? Can I use this popcorn for anything? Can it be smoked?

Thank you all for your advice

In my opinion there are only 2 schools of thought when it comes to popcorn buds ( and yes, you can just pinch them off, the smaller they are the easier it is ):

A) All bud sites that will not be a part of the final canopy should be removed to force all of the energy to the canopy colas.

B) People who like to make hash leave the popcorn buds to grow until harvest, then keep the colas for smoking and make hash out of the sugar leaves and popcorn buds.

If you don't make hash then your efforts should be maximizing your cola size, which means you should be removing popcorn buds as early as possible.

I like to harvest when I see amber. amber =degradation. so no more than 5%. when you trim save everything. trim can be sifted and the kief can be smoked. lemme know if you need instructions for that.

u need a silk screen that u can get from amazon. I use the 14x18 one. take dried trim and put on onto silkscreen. keep a clean piece of paper underneath to catch the trichomes. sift gently and the crystals will fall through onto the paper. scrape them up with a credit card and put it right into your bowl. you can make kief hash also. just wrap up the collected kief with wax paper into a nice tight piece. then wrap that with newspaper. then wet the paper. put into a 350F oven for 10 minutes. then put into the fridge for 10 minutes. unwrap and you have a nice little brick of kief hash.

I would actually suggest making dry ice hash. It's much less labor intensive than other methods and requires very little investment ( bucket, 3 bubble bags, 10 pounds of dry ice per session and a press ). Just my opinion. There are many tutorials here and on youtube to lead you through the process.

I do myself defoiling indoors you'll get a bigger yield and a lot less annoying popcorn. I've ran controlled side by side experiments. You can pick some leaves off and let the light penetrate deeper into the plant.
