Should i top before transplanting?

Hey all,

Pretty self explanatory, recemtly re-potted a seedling into a 1 gallon pot, and its exploded since. I want to top it to allow my other plants to catch up. Should I top while its still in its 1 gallon pot or wait until I move it to the 5 gallon? Thanks!

Posting a picture for reference and also I'm just proud of my first official grow.

I like to wait until atleast 5-6 nodes before I top so the roots are established and it is less shock to the plant.

A little transplant shock can happen as well although I know there are some people here who disagree and say their plants show no signs of transplant shock, because they are so good at it.

Point being, both of these things you want to do may shock the plant a little. So if it looks healthy now and is growing well, I would top first to allow the others to catch up like you want. Then do the transplant when it looks like it has recovered from the topping and is growing vigorously again, like in a week.

Agree,let them grow some. Those 2 in the 1gl dont look ready for transplant now anyways imo based on their size dank gave good advice. By the time they're ready to top they'll be better size for transplant imo

Yea I wasn't planning on transplanting for another week or so anyway. Just wasn't sure if it was counterproductive to top before transplanting or if I should just go ahead with it. Its starting to show its 5th node so I was gonna wait a few days then top there. Appreciate the advice!

Yea the plant on the left had some transplant shock but recovered really quickly, while the one on the right didn't show any shock but has grown as a much slower pace since. I'll probably just give it a few days on the left then top. Wait for it to recover like you said and show some growth before going to the 5 gallon.
