Should I switch to passive intake?

Like everyone else I am running into heat issues, peaking at 104:fire: at times, usually in the 90s . So I'm wondering if I should switch my fans around.
dimensions of my box are 46" long, 16" wide, and 56" tall. the volume of my box is 24.3ft cubed.
I have a 4in. active intake (rated at 80cfm) located at the bottom left hand side of the box, and a 6in. exhaust (rated at 250cfm) located at the top right hand side of the box. I also have a small fan located on the floor, in the middle of my box pointing upward.
So my question is should I remove the 4in fan and move it to the top of my box to help with the exhaust, and make this a passive running intake? Would it help my temps?
I'm using cfls and some t8 lighting if that matters
Any suggestions would be helpful. I am a broke motherfucker so cheap (but good) suggestions only:mrgreen:.
If any of this doesn't make sense let me know, I'll get high bongsmilie and clarify:eyesmoke:.
Thanks guys and gals peace out and stay high.

i would give it a try, usually more exaust = faster air exchange.also, try your system without the fan on the floor moving the hot air around ... becuase sometimes the hot air rising to the top of the box (to where the exaust fan is located) actually helps the box feel cooler.
just my 2cents

I tell all the newbs the same thing and ill tell you too.,..........If you box is exhausting its hot air back into the same room the box is in then you will never have your temps under control.......You must redirect your exhaust so the old hot air is pushed outside or into atic or anywhere but the same room your box is in......If you havent done that yet then your grow is flaud from the begining

Well, not if the room is air conditioned.. you could cool it before it was brought back in, but in theory you are right.

I would also remove the intake fan or reverse it for exhaust. You have 250cfm of output being limited by 70 cfm of input. It's like a single barrel carb on a v8 engine.

Thank you everyone,
Foot Clan thnk you sir, temps in my room are on the high of 83 and as low as 65, so I anticipate a little bit of heat but 104..., holyshit man not what I would have expected, but I will exhaust out of the room, and see how that helps.

ULM my box is pretty muched sealed, so that is why I was thinking of making it passive, but then I guess I still run into the problem of like you said "single barrel carb on a v8 engine"
so if i leave a 4 inch hole in my box and have 10inches of exhaust will that work? will i need more holes?

Thanks to everyone that is trying to help I really appreciate it

General rule is 1.5-2x larger intake than exhaust. But it doesn't have to be a single hole. 3 4" holes or something would be a good try.

I say yes as well as i know form chance that one 80CFM intake will not do very well with a almost 300 CFM exaust you can do one of two things add another intake fan or go passive only thing is you inyake has to be bringing in air that is cooler i exaust out my window and my intake is from my room where i have my box and i keep the temp in there at around 70 -74 deg and my box temps stay at an even 78 or so..

ok cool, thnx guys, so first thing i'm gonna do is exhaust out of the room and move my 4in to the top to act as another exhaust. As soon as I can I'm gonna order 2 more fans.
ULM, If I have 10in of exhaust will I want more intake? say 15-20in?

I switched to a passive intake about 3 weeks ago and I noticed about an 8 degree drop on average. before it was up to 91 now its around 83, and if I run the A/C all day it stays at 76. I love that my buddy told me to go passive. Try that before you add more intake.:weed::weed::weed:

Hey Johnny, what is your intake to exhaust ratio?
