Should I switch the light time on my auto?

It's 8 weeks in it's flowering. I have already messed its timing for a week. I have it on 12/12, and have read about 20/4 being good. Was just wondering what differences anyone has noticed with 12/12 vs 18/6 vs 20/4?

12/12 is awful in my experience, I got shit yields for the space they used up in my flower room once upon a time ago.

The battle between 18/6 vs 20/4 would be, how much does darkness time benefit an auto plant? I don't know the answer to that for sure, but I would think 20/4 would be better.

Auto's ...? you can use whatever timing suits, for me its all about yield, I don't waste time on any plant, for that ....autos go 20/4 you got to look to root development, as big roots mean big plant, == big yield !

God damn, that sounds awful. lol

alright, it is done. Just switched the timer to 20/4. girl better finish fast or ill put her ass on 23/1 lmao

Ahhhh NO once you back in time DO NOT go ahead and add hours on , your going to get the plant to be more probe to stress herming ... I grow extensively autos and photos and have grown many a least a few dozen autos under 12/12 and vs 18/6 or 20/4 the yield difference was negligable... 15-20% but also allowed me to run photos... So it more than made up for the small lost in yield..
My experience is that an auto from12/12 from the get go is going to do crap yield wise. If she was vegged under normal lightening and stopped vertical growth befor switching to flowering nutes and 12/12 small yield loss ....
Personally I'd put the light back the way it was , but ultimately you'll never know what will happen until you try it... So nothing to loose either by trying this experiment going from 12/12 back to 20/4 with an auto... If it's a well bred strain and diligent testing and selection were done prior and stress testing the crap out of the gals than more than likely you'll be fine.
Wishing you the best of luck and if you do keep the light at the increased hours please let us know the end results ;)

Awesome info thanks man! I decided to go ahead and find out. Shit, I already tried topping her in veg(prior to learning not to top an auto lol) she was stunted, and not sure if coincidence, but when I fed veg nutes, she finally grew back, but it had also been a week. I think nutes def helped though. that girl regenerated from the cut, leaves were halved, 2 sets lol. Yet she hasn't hermied still :)

it wont hermi
only photo's will hermi from lighting
stable auto's will NOT hermi from lighting changes

That's what makes sense to me, lets hope it's stable enough.

if its from a breeder with rep then its going to be fine if it was going to hermi it would of done it regardless of what you did to it
its genetics
CS /gibberillic acid / STS is about the only way youre going to get a hermi from a stable auto

i like how people insist that a auto needs a dark period i can go back on my own records and know that they need no such thing my best yields came from 24/0 grows
they dont cry and say they are sleepy
they dont die or look sickly
still get me just as stoned as they would if grown under 18/6 or 20/4
so i dont see a point

http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/3127.html a good article that explains why some plants need a night cycle. Cannabis apparently does not and the author of the article explains why in semi layman's terms.
Too much can be a bad thing though so it always circles back to environment. The environment dictates light height, intensity, etc. If everything is fireing on all cylinders then doing 24/7 lighting shouldn't be an issue.

that link is to ed rosenthal its hard to argue with that 24/0 will grow 33% faster than 18/6 where is the rep button O.o

good info thanks! I know he said during veg cycle though, wondering if it would apply to flower? and Ive tried vegging on 24/0 with photos. They grew fine besides the fact that the nodes were super fuckin close together lol would be better for a stretchy sativa, but then again, all depends on how strain responds. I personally feel 24/0 in veg is too much for photos. they looked happier when they went to 18/6. FOR autos though, I guess it's different story. I do want her to finish fast but not at price. if anything id do 23/1 instead of 24/0 probably

EDIT: tec, you flowered under 24/0 as well? how long did plant live and how tall? how was node spacing? was indica dom or sativa dom?

Some pics i took. Enjoy :) One leaf is a half leaf lol think i have some overwatering damage. But the new growth looks absolutely great! nice green, crystally, no slick shine. and theyre all the way at the bottom too!

yep only use 24/0 anymore
ive had them go 14 weeks but most run around 80-90 days
tall ? umm i lst and scrog if i had to guess most are around 4'
depends on pheno / strain
both ive been through many many plants
i have hundreds of pics in my blog and have a few in my signature for examples alot of my pics were lost in a hard drive fail and then the other half RIU lost when they changed server layouts

afghan kush ryder was one of my last grows i have documented main cola dvd case was for reference 2013-09-28 11.29.06 - Copy.jpg

damn, how much were you yieldin off the 4 footers. the one you posted looks 4 inches lol
that sucks to lose your pics like that. personal or family pics are the worst to lose though honestly. Could always be worse ay :p

edit: btw that is a rough ass trim lol do you trim again at all?
