Should I over OVER size my exhaust fan?

The space I plan on using is only about 112 cubic feet. A 6 inch 350-400 cfm fan should easily do the job for this size area and scrub with no problem but I’d like to prepare for the worst.. an 8 inch fan basically costs the same as a 6” (difference of $9 between Vortex S600 and S800).. would it make sense to get the 8 inch and just reduce down to 6 on both sides right off the bat? I would obviously only run the 8” on like 50% speed... I want to be able to add a second scrubber to the line if need be and I feel like a 6 inch would struggle to push AND pull through a scrubber.. let me know what you think

What they said above, and if you decide to use a bigger space in the future you already have a bigger fan. My flower tent is between 150-175 cf, and I run and intake and exhaust, each 450scfm

I have the ipower 6” off amazon. Both been running 6 month no issues, other than ungodly loud, glad they are in my garage and not a bedroom closet

Really like my Hydrofarm VLF6. I'm sure the 8 would perform just as well. From what I researched they're known for running nonstop for years.
Not too loud either.
In a 4x4 with 2-600 air cooled hps. Room temp 71F. Tent is constant 76F.

My 2c.

I went with the 6" max fan pro, and run it on low. Much quieter than the previous fan I had and keeps my room ~72-74f at the moment.

Tickled with my AC Infinity T-series - has the built in temp/humidity controller.

Here set to Auto mode - High Temp mode.
Maintaining 79f in flower. Real nice slow ramp-up/ramp-down of fan speed.
(Unfortunately, not able to have different temp settings for lights on/lights off. I have an Autopilot that does that where needed....but no slow ramp-up/ramp down.)

I tried bigger is better for my 4x4 room to pull through a carbon filter, cool tube and passive intake. BUT i went too big. I found a 10" inline vortex on FB for 30 canadian dollars, done! got a speedster 50 bucks, got 10 to 6 reducers 40 bucks for 2! So I'm $120 into this jet engine, got it hooked up but even at the speedsters lowest setting it moves too much air... and it whines and hums louder when being slowed
Compared to wind noise when wide open.
Even tried mounting inside a monster igloo cooler "free" which helped a lot but still could hear the hum from outsode the house.

Long story short. I wasted alot of time trying to make something work only to find a inline 4" vortex online for $50 that works perfect for me at low speed. I am on the west coast of canada and pull in cold air from outside.

Cheers

hang your motors from soft streatchy rubber bands, this will almost completely dampen the vibration noise.. if the weight of the fan dosent stretch the rubber bands their too strong

Sorry to hear you went thru that big fan hassle. Glad you have a solution.

For true zero rpm to full blast, usually without the hummm, consider a variac. I have one and it works perfect. (More money - ugh)
