Should I Leave My Light and Lightrail within 24 Hours a Day?

I have a 6 foot light rail in my veg room. I am wondering if I should leave the light and rail on 24 hours a day. I usually do 18 on 6 off for veg, but I have never used this light rail before and am curious. When the light moves to one end of the rail, the other end of the room is not completely dark, which is why I'm curious if I should have it on for 24 hours or just use my regular 18 6 cycle. I'm pretty sure I should use my 18 6 cycle even if the light is moving. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can use the same schedule. I prefer 20/4 over 18/6, but the light rail shouldnt make any difference.

Rasputin71: I'll give you the benefit of what the hydro instructors are saying where I'm taking some classes, "Plants, like us, need some rest." They recommend the 18/6 schedule as being basically proven in the field but they're tending to agree with what Irawarner said about 20/4. That's what they're trying to get us to try on our crops as part of a progressive lighting schedule. Maybe something to consider? HSA

HPS &MH ballasts also need a rest. most if not all manufactures recomend at least 2 hrs off time a day

Im running a 9ft lightrail and 1000w setup on an 18/6 schedule. I'm 2 weeks into flower and things have been going fine. The most difficult part is getting the timing dialed in for how long to stop at the ends. Once you get that set your good to treat it like its not there.

Good Thread! I just got my light mover today, and was also wondering about the height to mount the rail.
I suppose, with chains, I can mount it high and still adjust the light as needed..... Anyone's take on this..?

I can't speak of using light rails to grow, however I have used them for years to propagate corals. I ran 8ft rails with phoenix 20k 400w mh bulbs. Besides the obvious cost savings of running 4 lights over 32' of tanks (4) 8' x 2' holding systems, I had growth and results as if I ran (3) 400w mh fixtures per 8' system. I would assume that similar results could be had in a grow. I like, rasputin71 run 20/4 in veg, I think as long as you have the right distance from your plants, the light schedule you run is your personal preference. hth :)
