Short Vegetative VS. Long Vegetative before Flowering

hello just completed my first successful indoor grow with great results. thanks so much to you all for great and informative advice! could not have done it w/o you. i am starting my 2nd batch today and had a quick question. i am growing from medical clones which are about 2 weeks old. i have heard of others starting the budding process when they are very young, the last time i let them veg for about a month and a half until they were about 18"-24" tall then turned them to flowering. i am working with a somewhat smaller grow space. i was curious if anyone has experience starting the budding process when the plants themselves are small - decent results? or should i take the time to fully veg to a larger plant before budding. curious if it will be worth it to turn over every 60 days with a smaller yield or to veg and have a process that is more like 3.5 months as opposed to 2 months? anyone have any experience with low ryderz? drop me a line! thanks!!

very interesting question. I have also been thinking about the same thing. I read another thread, can't remember on what site about just doing clones. Start the flowering prosses say, maybe at 3 weeks, when your sure the clones are healthy. Because it is such a fast turn around, the guy just keep them in 16 oz. drinking cups. Right now I have 4 clones of Big Bud under cfls at about 3 weeks and 5 in 16oz. plastic cups at 2 weeks. I think I will try it with one of the 3 week old ones. I also have 3 dwarf mixes outside with about one more week. First time growing this auto, but I don.t think I will again. Only because it is such a small amount of smoke. I bet flowering early will be alot more smoke because these autos are only a single stem up the middle. hey anyway, good luck with what ever you try. have a great growing season, aloha

My buddy had 2 plants that he has been growing for 3 months so far. they have both been under the same conditions and in the same area and all the factors are the same except he vegged one plant 2 weeks before the other so it was in veg for 2 weeks longer and it has 16 bud bearing branches and the younger one has 4. So taking 2 weeks longer for 4x as many bud is on oxymoron for me I say wait. And we are planning on vegging for way longer next grow.

The number of branches has nothing to do with age but rather with "topping" of FIMming the plant. More topping= more branches The rule of thumb is that the longer you let a plant veg, the more bud the plant will produce. The exact amount of difference will depend on many factors like space, light, feeding, etc.

you can go to flower any time you want. some folks go directly to flower, no veg. it kind of depends on your situation/space etc.

i just try to make sure they have a decent root structure. Usually 2-3 weeks after they root. Clones are different then seeds they dont need veg. Clones grow very fast. And some people do beans with no veg. Not me tho...
