Sheetrock/Drywall FAQ

So I'm setting up a tent that fits sort of tight in a room. I've come to the conclusion that the best way to vent the tent and light is up into the crawl space above the house. I figured I'd cut up into the closet's ceiling, to kind of have the hole out of the way. I was just about ready to cut, and then realized I have little idea what I'm doing...

What is the best way to cut into sheetrock?

Is it better to cut a circle? a square?

Should I be concerned cutting into a corner area of drywall?

Will cutting a hole in a corner be harder to patch down the line?

Anything else I should know before cutting into my sheetrock ceiling?

Anyone with construction or just a lot of grow room experience, your wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Any and all other sheetrock questions are welcome:joint::joint::joint:

Corners are taped so avoid 2" from corners.

Use drywall saw. Find studs / joists so your hole is between them.

Wear eyewear and don't saw into electrical.

Someone call for a shitrocker? I'm a drywall/lather by trade, i'll try and help ya.
First thing is to locate the framing with a studfinder. Like Snaps said, keep at least 2" from the inside corners. I use a circle cutter i got in my bags, but you can find something "circular" with the same diameter as the ducting ur gonna shove through that hole, like a plate, or a coffee can or something like that. Trace that thing with a pencil. Score with a utility knife. Than cut with a keyhole saw, being careful of wires. If you fuck up to bad it's ok, cut a square piece of drywall, way bigger than that hole you just butchered up, and cut a new hole into it. Than screw that new piece over the older jacked up hole.
As far as patching it up down the road. Look online for some pointers when the time comes. You won't be able to make it look like i would(like you never did it). Ceilings are the hardest to patch/make look good,so good thing ur doing it in the closet :hump:
