Autos have a very limited 'growth' period, unlike photos, which you can throw outside pretty much any time after freeze and it doesnt matter if they grow for a few weeks, if the soil is too cold yet or for whatever reason. Once autos are above ground, the clock is ticking, so they need ideal conditions to really take off. Also autos dont get tall, so going to great lengths to hide them is largely unnecessary. They work great in any brushy area, Id avoid planting near or even worse under large trees. Im at 47deg and Ive seen nice autos grown from seed that werent planted until mid june. Dig your holes at least a few weeks before you plant, there is a good chance animals will mess with them after you dig them. When you get back, stick your hand into the dirt, if its cold, dont plant yet. Cool is ok, but if its brr cold like you wouldnt wanna keep your hand there for long, wait another week and check again. If you wanna plant seedlings or seeds, find some 30+oz clear/opaque plastic cups, big gulp or whatever. Cut the bottom off and put the cup upside down over your plant, about 2 inches into the soil, water the soil around the cup to hold it in place. This will act as a greenhouse, providing additional warmth and also blocking insects and cutworms from accessing the plants. They will eventually grow right out the top and this barrier can also help prevent slug/rodent damage, no reason to remove them before harvest.
