How tall and how many nodes before you can switch to 12/12 to know the sex then re veg again? how do you properly do it without turning it into a hermie?

wait till its about 2 to 3 months old , take a few clones off each plant , root the clones , put 1 or 2 of the clones from each plant you take and flower them to find out their sex. this will help so that you won't waist any time putting them back to veg and waiting for them to recover. That and if there's ne males (hope not) and your not very careful the polin sacks can open and polinate your females and then your pretty much boned and your just better off doing a seed harvest and not putting them back into veg.

Depends on the strain but most will show sex with-in 1 to 2 months of veg time. Tie your plants down if height is a problem.

cover one branch after 12 hrs of light and uncover back and forth ensuring only 12/12 for that one branch. pain in the ass but it works.

When the plants get old enough they should show "preFlowers" easy to cull the males then and just grow the girlies. You should easily be able to determine the sex from the preflowers.

yes but if you don't want to waist the time veging them for that long you can do my method , for me I wouldn't do the 12/12 manaly because you have to be exact ok the time

how many plants do you have? And what kind of light?

the reason I ask if you can just bud them all when ready and kill the boys.

switching to 12/12 and back will cost you 1 month and then your plants will have too many shoots, so you will need to prune heavily to not have stemey bud. If you have 5-20 plants and a 400w HPS you will have 5 to 15 girls so just do the 12/12 1 time, its better IMO

do you really want to delay harvest for 1 month?

i currently have 3 NL vegging for a month.. they are about 5-9" tall under cfls.. will be flowering on 400w hps..:)

beside knowing its a female whats the benefits of cloning? arnt you just growing smaller plants and therefor smaller yeild? or am i way off on this. i want to try it but i want to know why its better than growing in soil the way i do

Oh yea, if that is your setup. Just grow them all and bud them. Because 400w can easily bud out 1, 2 or 3 plants. I would start taking clones (Make sure to label them). You may only get 1 girl. Next grow if you have a female mother you can get much more since you can grow 10 females.

Once you have at least 1 clone from each you may as well bud them all.

btw, you dont need a real 2nd room. My cloning room has 1 20w floro. in a cardboard box that a lawnmower came in. (that is a shitty setup, not a best case at all) but it works for me. if you get clones then your whole growing op will instantly become 20 times more productive, Not bad to more than double production with only a tiny second box/room. That is the beauty of clones, the 2nd room is hardly a real grow room.

Let them veg for another two weeks, hopefully by then you'll start to see the plant growing "Alternating Internodes(nodes)". They should be at least a foot or better after 6 weeks in veg, and showing some pre-flowers. Like NoDrama said, you just look at the pre-flowers and you'll be able to tell if it's male or female and either pull the male or put the female into flower at that point. No need to clone. If you look in the Growfaqs there should be pictures of male and female pre-flowers to help you figure it out. If you need help you can PM me and I'll walk you thru it. You will need a small magnifying glass or a 30X hand-held scope, so buy one now and you'll have it when you need it.

If you have 4 feet of height to work with and the plants are 12" when you start flowering, you should have plenty of room. Like you just said, there's always "LST" if you have to tie them down a bit.
