hello everyone.
i'm setting my first growroom, so i'm a bit of a noob. i've read some killer info on this site, but i've still have a few questions, if you could help i would be very grateful.

so, here's the thing. i'm setting a growroom of 2m Tall X 1,5m deep, 1M side. my plan is to grow on SCROG technique. i'ts a medium size growrrom for what i've seen. from what i've read the lighting i'ts for me the most difficult sobject, if i understood correctly i have to use some white light for growing and some kind of orange light for flowering. i'm planning to use something like this one. this one is 10W the one i got i'ts 50W with the same control and colors. <<< http://www.homecenter.com.co/homecenter-co/product/231155/Reflector-led-10w-colores-control-remoto?skuId=&passedNavAction=push >>>>>

so my question is. i'ts ok to use that light?. i can change the color of the expectrum with the remote from white to orange and use the propper color for each phase.

any advice would be appreciated.

Not really, you'd be much better off in that space to have at least a 400W HPS ( for veg and flower ).

What about circulation? Odor control?

I would be supprized if you could finish a plant at all with that light. Would have to have the data sheets for those led diodes and ask someone like supraspl (he hangs out in the led section for the most part) if they would be ideal for growing, but not likely. If you want to go led, I would start reading up. Captainmorgan on this site uses the led bulbs you can get at the store, havnt had time to follow a whole grow but I would bet hes been pretty ssuccessful with them. That light you are looking at is pricey for 10w! Get a real grow light an you will have much better success.

thanks for your answers.

i went to the store and take a box of that light that i posted here to discuss, while i was reading the specifications on the side of the box to give you a little more info for you to help me, i found something a bit weird for me. the box show Some numbers like " 10w = 100w " just on one side. so, you mentioned that i need a 400w to get started, the box of the one i got puts on a side " 50w = 500w" but i'm not sure if that 500w i'ts about. if they write that just to save space, like "50w" i'ts the same that 500w i would be just above the 400w you recommend but, again, i'm not sure that "500w" is refering to.
maybe we got to be clear about i'ts not a common bulb(i meen a house bulb) , the guy on the store told me that there is a big diference between a normal bulb and a Reflector Bulb (that light it's used for outsides and it shines a lot), i don't know for sure if the guy was just trying to convince me to get some sells.

i went to the led section as you mentioned but didn't find anything about those numbers or some kind of counterpart to compare.

thank's for ur answer, i got a pretty powerful fan to ventilate and a extractor kind of the same size of the radius of the fan i thin'k it would be the job for now, the temperature doesn't worries me very much, i'm in bogota (colombia) , the temperature here i'ts pretty stable and a bit cold. i'm a bit more concerned about the light due to i'ts my biggest cost so far.

then again, thank's for all ur answers.

if youre in the US spend 500 hundred on an area 51 LED... if led is the way you want to go... if not and you want to fuck aorundf with ballasts... heat control etc then go gor a 400-600W HPS...

you can veg quite well with home depot leds and they will last you a long time

spazatak, thank's for answer.

i've read that the HPS i'ts way more complicated and expensive, indeed i want to go LED way but i'm not sure what kind of LED that's my big question. if you could tell me if that light (not 10W but 50w (weird numbers "50w = 500w") ) do the job, i put my hands on that and get started as soon as i can, i'm kind of stuck because of the light problem.
and i'm not in the US =( i'm in colombia. that's one of the reason i prefer to go LED i had a hard time looking for some HPS lights.

Use a 600 dual spectrum bulb as its your first grow. Dont complicate it. 400 hps is ok but id go with 600 in that space. Iv got a similar set up at the moment under a 600 and their doing great. I just put 4 cheese plants under it with a good filter and exhaust and plenty of cool fresh air coming in and a small oscillating fan blowing across the tops. I have a small temp probe hanging just above the plants and temps at a constant 27c through the day and about 21 at night so 600 hps is defo the way to go i reckon mate. Why downgrade when your set up can handle the extra light?

in fact the set up i have under the one 600 with the 4 cheese is 80x80x160 and everything is running smooth as anything!

A mate of mine used LEDs growing in his attic when he always used hps bulbs at other addresses we grew at because he didnt want the heat problem but he was VERY dissapointed with the yield after what hed become used to under hps. Just sayin.

you should start with high intensity discharge or H.I.D either a high pressure sodium for flowering or a metal halide for veg.if i were just starting i would use a 600watt digital ballast hps to flower in space you have that will give u fantastic results hard dense sticky happiness! led lighting is good but still very expensive to equal results w/hid .also standard t12 4ft fourecsents w/cool white and full spectrum bulbs will veg your plants great and for pennies.

cab2.jpg cab.jpg Here is a pic of my custom made cab which I am selling. It has a 400w HPS and a 400w MH. A large carbon filter and a 440 CFL Fan: VenTech IF6CF620 6" Inline Duct Fan 440 CFM w/ Virgin Charcoal Carbon Filter Combo.

An ebb n Flow System and several fans and two timers and a portable air conditioner for temps. Plus the PH Meter and PPH Meter and I use the lucas system.

It is in an inclosed 6 foot cab that locks and has a digital conversion ballast that goes from 200w to 450w.

U can easily get 8 3 foot plants in that ebb n flow.

Right off you need to understand the growing area you described is not a medium size grow area it's a very small area , with small areas comes problems with heat & humidity control , you've done some reading on how to grow but i think your focused on the wrong areas , you seem determined to use lighting that you get from a hardware store or home center because your in Columbia , while your city might not have grow shops many online stores around the world will ship proper lighting to Bogata , your right where different color light will have different effects on plants but your neglecting light intensity , you need the proper spectrum of light as well as enough lumens , having both is not as simple as buying an off the shelf consumer light bulb , a decent grow can be done using bulbs like the one your looking at but its not going to happen with using a single bulb , to properly light your grow area it's going to take well over a dozen bulbs , each plant will need atleast 5 or 6 light bulbs , hooking up that many off the shelf lights will not be easy or cheap , by the time you add up all the bulbs , sockets , extension cords ect you'll spend more than buying a proper grow light & your grow will be a fire hazard from all the cords going everywhere .

You also need to figure out what your going to do about heat build up , even those bulbs your looking at are going to over heat the small space you have once you get 12 to 20 bulbs in there , also there is no such thing as 10w = 100w no matter what it says on the box , that is for how the human eye percieves light & plants do not see light the way the human eye percieves light .The way i see it you need to do alot more reading about what type lighting to use for indoor growing & not focus on making substandard light bulbs work by getting the right color , forget the light you posted here & read up on proper grow lighting types such as T-8 , T-5 , HPS , MH , LED & CFL ,

A 400 watt High Pressure Sodium light & ballast is all you need for lighting & can be bought via ebay for $99 . The $99 400 watt systems come with everything you need & is as simple to install as hooking up a dvd player to your television , screw in light bulb , hang from cieling , plug power cord into the wall & lighting is finished .

my conversion ballast is mounted on the outside back of my cab so I don't need to worry about heat and like I said I have a portable air conditioner. Not sure how much room or money you have but building a cab is not hard as long as you have the tools like a drill, another person, and a level.

I spent about Ballast (Apollow): $102, Lights MH and HPS $70 (Plantmax), Dryer hose (AZ Partmaster Metal Dryer Vent hose 25 feet): $30, Filter and Fan (VenTech Inline Duct Fan 440 cfm, very quite, Virgin Charcoal Filter Combo, its on amazon): $137.75, Hood (6 inch Air Cooled Hydroponic Grow Light Reflecter by SilverSun): $110, Ebb n Flow (Botanicare Micro Garden Complete Ebb and Flow): $190, Two Pumps (One for feeding and one for changing out the water, EcoPlus 185 GPH pumps): $31.00 for both, Timers (2 Timers one for feeding and one for lights, HydroFarm TM01715D 7-Day Digital Program Timer): $30.00 for both

Plus things like buying the cab, lining it with reflective material (not aluminum), tubing for pumps, 6 port surge protecter plugins, I have 4. Screws, Nuts and bolts. Good Reflective duct tape to seal the hose around the hood, fan and filter to tubing and the exit for the air once it passes through your bulb and hood, nutrients. Lucas method you only need two different kinds of nutrients I use flora bloom and flora micro brand. And anything small I may have forgot. My cab ran me $150 already assembled, meaning I didn't need to put the doors on it . I recommend the Sandusky Lee Storage Cabinet with digital lock its just under 6 feet and is $330 but it is sturdy as hell, my buddy has one in his room closet.

All together it comes out to $1030.75 not counting the surge protectors, fans, bungee cords, tubing, and hardware which will run about another $150. Oh and a PPM meter and a PH meter that will run you about a hundred.

It may sound a lot but it isn't just look on the internet for something similar already put together with a hydro system in it and they are between $2k and $3k

Here is the Sandusky Cab ( you just remove or don't put in the shelves unless you want a top one for cloning): (the second cab I found on amazon and it would be awesome with wheels plus I bet it blocks out any light.

Just get a 600 watt hps and be way ahead of the game you're getting yourself into.
Lighting is the 1 thing I'd never skimp on.
