Setting up an overhead CFL with y-splitter

This is a picture of me holding the power strip in my hand. The cord is only 3 feet long, which is a major downside... but it could still work, provided I find something to hang it from. What would you best suggestions be?

I dont know, it depends... where are you growing? It would be nice if you could attach it to something solid.. maybe a board or something. If not maybe you could ghetto rig it from the ceiling. Probably not a great idea though.

go to home depot and buy a bulb fixture. they have good ones for v. cheap in the outdoor section, the fixture comes w. a concave circular reflective hood and a clamp, you can use your y-adapter in one fixture and have 4 bulbs from on source. this cost under 10bucks. the one i bought was rated at 300W which should be plenty for CFLs.

im a CFL grower as well.

Dude go get a cheap ass vantiy lite, you can find them with 3-6 sockets bilt in,made of wood so you can screw in some chain to hang it with.Use the power strip to run your timer and lites, fans.

check my thread[bigger, badder]i made my own vanity lites and it works great.my total cost was under $45.00 for the lite rack[bulbs were about $225]still cheaper then hid.

good luck with your grow.

that's a great idea to get a vanity light fixture. you're going to need something to act as a reflecting hood tho.

I've seen these simply mounted on plywood or hung from the ceiling with chains. Most strips have a place on the back you can screw in to

And $225 in bulbs being cheaper than HPS? I saw a 250W HPS for $130 the other day. I'm a CFL grower too but never spent more than $50 on my setup (4 42 watt, 4 23 watt, and 2 4ft 40 watt tubes)

I just used 2 outdoor flood lamp assys, 5.97 ea at wally with 4 splitters = 8 lamps, Fixtures are rated at 300watts each, and 4 X 26watts = 104 watts per fixture X 2 = 208 watts total= no chance of overloading those fixtures and lots of light...Also 2 packs of 26watt, 6500K lamps are 6.97 ea X 4 = 27.88 for lamps, of course I will have to buy lamps again to flower, but hey...Total cost, <$50
