Hello all im a new member but not new to these forums by any means.. this is what ive got..

Just ordered a 2 light setup, 2 1000w virtual sun systems lights ballasts and hoods. im building a room in my basement out of panda film and lumber. 2x4s for the floor and probably 1xs for the framing of the walls for the film. the ceiling is a bit low its at 7 foot fromfloor to ceiling, im hoping ive got enough headroom for my ladies. Issue im having is im not sure how im going to set this room up.. am i gonna split it, one for flower one for veg. or am i gonna have a flower room, veg room and a small clone room.. so my final deminsions are 8x10 room with a 7 ft ceiling.. winter is coming up and im in michigan so cooling the room will be no problem at all with our cold winters.. I understand im probably rambling but i need to figure out the best way for me to set a room of that stature up.. for the amount i can grow, well i would like to fit whatever i can under 2 1000 hp sodiums.. wait i didnt mention the setup comes with halide and hps bulbs.. apparently i shouldve payed attention to the 20 plus years of growing my family has done in oregon..

If anyone could please give me some input that would be wonderful, as time goes on and things are built i will post pictures up.
thanks guys and gals!

I have something similar but with 2x400w instead of 1000ws. I chose to make a flowering room inside a closed area like a closet which is inside the bigger room, put 2 HPS lights side by side in there to make full use of the lights and one large canopy. outside I make an area for my mother plants and clones under fluro lights, I can access the room anytime I want without having to darken it, also I can access the res and all the equipment for my flowering room. I only keep the flowering plants undisturbed during dark cycle. I would not change anything in my setup except if I decided to build a vertical setup which yields much more but I haven't decided that yet. I grow hydro flood and drain tables or DWC.

My Q for you is about cooling. I'm in also MI have have been growing since 2008.

Sure in Jan/Feb you won't have a problem but you will in Mar-Dec, maybe year round. Where is the cool fall air coming in from? where are you exhausting? at what CFM?

2 x 1,000W will heat the hell out of an 8x10 room unless you are pulling in cool air.

What are you planning to do when winter ends?

Next you asked about headroom? that would depend on your pots, trays and media?

How much room from the top of your pots to the light?

How long will you veg?

Personally I will only build a perpetual harvest, but you can easily use a single harvest setup with alternating light cycles in the same room, but that is a big decision you need to make (like all of the other Qs I asked above).

Oh, one more Q - What happened to the 20 yrs of "family knowledge"? Why are you posting to a bunch of neophyte growers here vs. asking your family?

thanks for the feed back so far. My family grows hydro mostly and they insist i buy top of the line etc etc.. my house/basement stays pretty cool with the ac in the summer but i dont plan on keeping it in there just a grow or two so i can afford to drywall part of my garage and start growing in there. hence the reason im going to use a quick panda film room. i was going to use 3 gal pots/buckets going to grow all dirt fox farm has done the best in all my friends grows.. room from pots to light really will depend on the tray or pots im going to have to get indicas most likely more bushy shorter plants.. ive got a buddy coming over now to check out my basement ill update you with what he says.. hes been growing about 5 years.. any other questions i didnt answer i will when i return he is pulling in now.

Ok MichMed here is what weve got so far; were going take an 8x8 section frame it up and panda film it and stick some of the adhesive zippers on the front for the makeshift door, we are then going to set up the 2 1000 watt lights set them up so they overlap a bit. that way the middle plants with the extra spectrum will be extra dense. we will run an 8 inch inline with box fan in one corner and osciliating in the other. Veg time is going to be about 3-4 weeks and flower will be well should be around 2 months. going to then set up a 2x2 shelf area for clones. with all the shops around with clones that wont be a problem until i find a mother i like. my buddy wants me to use something.. uhh i think he said was a light controller or something, said it would help save on my power bill etc.. as this post too im sure i forgot some stuff but as soon as i get the room up and start taking steps in that direction ill take pictures and get them posted up.
