Serated vs round leaves?

*Boundary layer* – The *boundary layer* is a thin layer of still air hugging the surface of the *leaf*. This layer ...

I couldnt find the reason why leaves are serated as oppose to round but i would think that the serations provide better control of the leaf boundry layer over round edges.

When the plant needs more air exchange they flip up reducing leaf boundry thickness and when it wants to transpire less serations flip down increasing leaf boundry thickness.

Are the serations on leaves just an advanced adaptaion in dealing with heat, humidity, water loss and wind or somthing else?

Certainly when they flip up i can sumise its either too hot, overwatered, overferted or too humid and adjust the environment accordingly and when they drop down it would seem indicative of underwatering, wind and low humidity...
