Hi Buckets,
I've got some incredibly good news to share with you!
But first I want to update you about all the successes we've been having with the Sensible BC campaign.
50 CITY TOUR
I've now finished my fifty city tour across BC.
Since October I have travelled to 50 cities and towns all across the province, sharing the Sensible BC message and setting up volunteers everywhere I went.
The tour generated over 85 newspaper articles, plus a lot of local radio and TV coverage.
We've also received many formal media endorsements over the past few months, from a variety of newspapers including the
Vancouver Sun,
The Province, the
Times Colonist, the
Globe and Mail, the
Cowichan News Leader, the
Campbell River Mirror and
The Coast Reporter.
Frankly, the tour was exhausting, but I'm glad I did it. I got to meet many wonderful people, to build support for our campaign, and to see more of our beautiful province than I ever have before!
SENSIBLE BC PANEL SERIES
During March and April, I will be moderating a series of 15 panel discussions around the province, to continue the dialogue and build further support for our campaign.
Each panel will feature a mix of speakers, including medical professionals, law enforcement officials, academics, local politicians and other prominent figures.
Unlike my tour, these panels will focus on the most populated areas of the province, so that we can reach the largest number of people at once.
You can see the tentative list of panel dates and locations at the end of this email.
INCREDIBLE NEWS!
Now for the incredible news!
We have an amazing new supporter for our campaign!
You might have heard that long-time marijuana activist named Bob Erb won the lottery in November, and pledged to use some of his winnings to support the legalization cause.
Bob was already a well-known local figure in his hometown of Terrace, and has been a marijuana activist and reformer for many years. In 2001 he ran as a candidate for the BC Marijuana Party, and has also run for mayor of Terrace to promote the legalization cause.
Last weekend, Bob brought a dozen activists from across Canada to his hometown, for a cannabis convention and strategy session.
It was a great time as we all shared our experiences and planned for the road ahead.
BOB ERB WILL DOUBLE YOUR DONATION!
Bob Erb has made a generous contribution to Sensible BC. This lets us start on some needed polling, get our phone bank set up, print some more flyers and buttons, and keep our momentum going.
Even more importantly, Bob has pledged to match all the donations we receive over the rest of the campaign!
This means that you can feel even better about making a donation today, knowing that every dollar you put in will help out twice as much!
What better way to double your money than by making a donation to Sensible BC?
Make your donation to help make history!
This is your chance to make a very real contribution to changing the marijuana laws in BC, so we don't have to pass this failed war down to another generation.
So far we've been building incredible support and enjoying some very lucky breaks. But we still have a long road ahead!
Your donation will absolutely make a real difference.
Please take advantage of this special opportunity to double your donation, to invest in a better future, and to become part of our shared success!
The best way to donate is to make a monthly pledge, to put in a fixed amount every month over the next 10 months of the campaign. That way you can spread out your donation cost, and we have the confidence of knowing we have steady funding coming in over the course of our campaign.
(We're a non-profit society, but not a charity, and so we cannot offer a tax receipt for your donation.)
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Of course there's many other ways to contribute to the success of Sensible BC than just money.
We have a real need for volunteers, in Vancouver and all across BC, who can devote some time and energy to this campaign.
Here's some of the ways you can volunteer:
* Making phone calls on behalf of Sensible BC. (Right now this can only be done from our office in Vancouver, but we are setting things up so that people can make calls for us from their home phone or from their computer.)
* Data-entry. (Typing in names and info from our supporters into our database. This is also best done from our office, but can possibly be done from home as well.)
* Become a canvasser. (Canvassers can print out
registration forms at home, and then work with others to register supporters in your community.)
* Become a District Organizer. (District Organizers will be responsible for encouraging and assisting volunteers and canvassers in their area, and for helping to plan local events.)
* Volunteer Online. (Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, repost our stories, promote the campaign on forums and comments sections, build awareness for the campaign.)
If you'd like to take on any of these roles, please contact Nicole at
[email protected] or at
604-343-4684.
Thanks again for your support.
Together we will change the law.
