Selection in breeding for dummies.

I am making a thread to talk about breeding in easy to understand ways and I am hoping people will share their experience and insights they have learned. I have way more to learn. It's a lifelong journey.
What I am going to share is the first thing I learned:
In general...if you have two females and one is frostier with trichomes than the other, the seeds from the frostier plant will also yield frostier plants than those from the less frosty plant.
That's selection...selecting for the best plants.

ln this example, I like this plant for its compact indica features when most of the Fireskunk plants are more sativa structured.
I also am selecting for its terpene profile now which I hope will be as good later on the cure. I am looking for the sweet terps this plant has in flower to keep in the cure. So far some plants become musky, earthy, hashy and gassy on the cure while one has been sweet and fooled me ,I thought it was pure Skunk#1 until recently.
The final part of the process is done the old fashioned way...bud sampling.
In the end growing out and smoking crosses is the only way a broke grower can do things. And it's a good method.
This plant has been pollinated by a male selected for its flowers aroma which was strong. No testing. Just instinct. I would do testing if I had it like that. The slow way is best anyway. Even after the male flowers were totally dried it still stunk. A good sign anyways.

How many of these sees will you pop? Typically the resultant seeds from the cross you describe will be 50% mother and 50% farther, some may lead more either way. You could F2 these and see which males gives you most of the qualities you seek. Collect that pollen and freeze. As long as you keep it cold and bring up to temp slowly, pollen be safely stored for long periods.

You could then pop a next generation and see which females give you the qualities you seed and use that saved pollen. Issue would be lack of genetic diversity after a few generations from inbred mating.
