So...

I am picking out a mother, should I pick out the bushiest, fastest growing, nicest looking one?? I cant bud them all and then select a mother, so how am I going to know that one will have the best bud?? should I pick out the smelliest? its not the nicest, fastest growing one though...

I dont know, my guess is just pick the nicest one..

By saying nicest one I meant healthiest. I think I will take the nicest one with the most bottom growth

Take clones from each plant, then flower the original, the clone from the best original is your new mother. Remember to clearly mark each clone and original plant so you remember which came from which. This way you can test the buds and then pick your mother

Will you notice any lack of potentency when taking a clone of a clone (if the clone becomes your mother plant, than you will be taking clones), or does that happen after many more generations of cloning clones?

Would'nt I just be able to throw the seeded mother back into veg, after seeing her potential, and if I like her?

from what i have read/heard you want the 3rd clone for mother, something about it being more stable.
i am starting from seedlings for the first time, the seedlings are 4 weeks old and i just took 4 cuttings off each, once they root i will put the seedlings into flower and pick out the male seedlings and clones chuck them along with all the seedling and put the female clones into full swing veg, once big enough i will take 4 cuttings from each of them and flower them once the clones have rooted, once the 2nd gen clones have vegged enough more cuttings are taken and mothers put into flower. it is from these cuttings that i have taken that i will choose my mothers from depending on phenos etc

Thats crazy...I think I have been out of the loop for awhile, but this is the first Ive heard of this. So you would keep for a mother, the clone of the clone of the clone from the mother right?

Picking a mother is more art than science. In the wild, Natural Selection dictates which plants will pass on their genes and which ones will simply die off. As the gardener you have the ability to step in and change the selection process in your favor.

Choosing a mother depends on what your goals are. If you want a faster growing strain then you kill off all the slow stains. Want stronger bud, kill off all the weaker ones.

Now this is a gross simplification. Ideally you want to start reading up on gene pheno types and how genes express themselves. But for many, simply making a guess and picking your personal favorite strain is all that is needed.

As you do this more and more you'll learn to predict your plants.
