Seeking advice on a late season garden (Northern CA)

Hey, everyone. I’m relatively experienced with small-scale indoor, but recently moved and don’t have a grow space set up yet so that’s not an option at the moment.

I’m thinking I’d like to buy ~6 clones (or teens, if I can find some) and put them outdoors within the next couple/few weeks. I’ll probably put them in 15-20 gallon pots since I assume they won’t

I’ve got a nice spot that gets full sun all day, and I will be able to build a simple greenhouse or hoop house to keep them dry if it happens to rain. I also have a 6-bulb 4-foot T5 light that I can use to veg them for a bit if folks think that would be worthwhile. My only worry there is pushing the flowering phase too late in the season and not taking advantage of the late-summer sunshine

Do any CA growers put clones outdoors this late?

How’s it work out?

Any tips you can share will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

~SS

Assuming I can’t find any “teen” sized clones within the next week or two, I’m seeing two options:

- Veg clones indoors under a T5 (24 hr) for a couple/few weeks, then bring outside to harden off and begin flowering.

-Start the clones outdoors right off the bat (in shade at first, of course), add a little supplemental LED or CFL lighting in the morning and/or evening to prevent flowering until they get a little bigger, thencut out the lighting and let them do their thing.

I’m leaning toward the second option. What do you think?

Well, I guess I’m just gonna give it a shot.

Plan is to get started with some clones indoors under my T5, then start moving them outdoors for some supplemental sun as they get a little stronger. When they get to 1 foot or so with a bit of branching, I’ll move them outside to flower.

I am also in NorCal... what part are you in? miiiiight be able to help with two teens.

You have a couple options.
1) As you've outlined, get some clones, put them outside, and use the GasLamp method to simply give them 18 hours of light (really north of 14.5 should be ok) per day, get them up in size a bit, then just take the lights off and let nature take its course.

2) go to www.ilgm.com (or others, but ILGM ships very very very fast) and get some autoflower seeds. You can plant those, and within three months you will be harvesting nice, sturdy, frosty plants. I grew some auto's for the first time this year and I am very impressed.

No. Not to late. Just double or triple your load. Or like you said. Veg em up first. I’m non stop adding plants around this time of year. I like the smaller plant harvests. Come December I have around 20 different strains. This year might be a tad different Same amount of strains. Just more clones and different phenos maybe

Thanks, DrOg. Good to know!

How big are your clones when you put them out this late, and how bigdo they tend to get by harvest time?

I’m not looking for quantity - quality is what matters to me…

After root. I veg for a week or so. Then transplant straight to the ground. But my flower bed is alive as hell and great. I prefer to just add a few bags of fox farm and WC as the year goes. Just plain water. Sometime I feed bottle nutrients. But only when I know the plant is asking for it.

Thanks, guys.

amateur - I’m in West Sonoma County.
shoot, we are a bit far away... I am by Yosemite.

you can still get a great harvest from clones right now. If you lean sativa heavy, it will take longer to flower, and mature later in the year, so that is a option also.

Right on. I’m going to pick up a half dozen clones this evening. They’ve got Venom OG, Purple Gas Mac, and Ice Cream Cake available. Thinking I’ll go with two of each for some variety.

This run is just for fun - whatever I get from it will be a bonus. :)

Take care of everything spot on. No hold backs. Heavy training and no pruning will give you a great harvest bro. Outdoor sog

Yeah. I’m thinking of doubling that. I’m already at around 24-25. 9 large main girls.
And the sizes go from there lol. I filled my cage completely which is nice and have an extra 3 out side the cage. And I just keep adding from inside. I take 4-8 cuts at one time. Root them in 5 days. Transplant to 1 gals. Veg a week then into the ground.
And I’m keeping on till I’m satisfied.

haha that is exactly what I did this season too. I was training them, and was like "uhm, I should just teach myself to clone"...... and now i've got all these extra plants, and my buddies got some extra plants out of it too lol.

Doh… One of my clones is already showing PM just a day after bringing it home from the dispensary. Fun times.
